What's with the white box around it? Reminds me of a cheap iron-on.

Hmmm:

American Heritage Dictionary:
ji-had
1. A Muslim holy war or spiritual struggle against infidels.
2. A crusade or struggle.

Merriam-Webster Dictionary:
ji-had
1. a holy war waged on behalf of Islam as a religious duty; also : a personal struggle in devotion to Islam especially involving spiritual discipline
2. a crusade for a principle or belief

I'm afraid the definition has not changed, charliemars. Don't question my sources, either.

First of Down10... No one and I mean no one muthafucker tells me what i can and can't do... Sooo I will question your sources all i goddamn want to... Second off you seem to be so culturally illiterate that you go to fricking dictionary created by a culture with a centuries old hatred for Islam as your basis... God are you a naive little dumb ass!!! Second you seem to confusing a misguided cultural definition with an actual translation... In Arabic... you know the language the vast majority of Muslims consider their sacred tongue... the Word "Jihad" means Struggle... as in the struggle to do what is right versus what is self serving and selfish... the struggle that all human beings deal with on a daily basis!!! Before you criticize Islam why don't you learn something about it first!!!

Fair enough. Wiki has a bit more insight on the subject:
http://en.wikipedia.org/?title=Jihad

Your shirt is still weak-sauce.

ok down10...you need to know arabic to say the the fucking american heritage dictionary is right, 'cause it's not! that would be the bullshit, feed people lies definition. go learn arabic, then argue. jihad is an inner struggle, a "war" with one's self, if you will.

oh god, how annoying.
szrhands
szrhands on Jul 17 '04
yeah, it is annoying...annoying that because of a piece of clothing people are categorized and the most horrible assumptions are made. it's annoying to know that choosing to wear something, something that really is no different from hats, socks, or any other "extra" piece of cloth someone can place on their body, so quickly becomes a bullshit symbol of "holy war" to some people. it is definitely annoying, and until you people spend one day, even one hour with a scarf on your head you cannot say anything, because then ou will know what it is like

is a t-shirt really a suitable platform for this kind of debate?
citizen askew
citizen askew on Jul 19 '04
either way. wherther its an inner struggle. or some other interpretaion of the word, the shirt isnt going to sell. even if you take off the white box.
defenda

Listen, I'm against the war too, but I hate this shirt. Even as a political shirt, without much thought for the design, it fails. Sorry.

LOL, this is very entertaining... anyways, don't diss a whole culture, (charliemars: fricking dictionary created by a culture with a centuries old hatred for Islam) just because of your personal view or what you think of some of its memebers, you can't judge a culture by a percentage, you have to know the whole thing. Otherwise it's called pregidous, or stereotyping, or bias or something like that. Just becuase something (America) is big or strong does NOT mean that bias is not bias, just like racism against a big group is still racism. That's just dumb.

Lose the box.
