About the animal:

A rework from the Mandarin Duck (Aix galericulata). A medium-sized perching duck, closely related to the North American Wood Duck. It is 41-49 cm long with a 65-75 cm wingspan. The real Mandarin Duck is very colorful and beautiful.



About the Theme / Concept :

a lonely mandarin duck in the night, leaving his habitat (usually they live in secluded woodlands next to water). Maybe he's not looking for something to eat (their feeding time occurs during both day and night). There's a possibility that he's looking for his soulmate. Mandarin ducks are known for their devotion to one another. The red night sky is the visualization of his sadness.

Great original work, loving the colours.

Really neat idea and i like the all-over print look of this, but i think the bird in front needs a bit more detail and style far removed from the harsh alien environment behind it to add to the contrast. Also, maybe give a little more detail to the alien world, still good stuff tho.

really cool! i acknowledge your mandarin duck concept but i think it could be more if the duck has an alien look to it too. or a robot duck? just to blend in more with the background.
