dont crit without giving a reason guys, that would be called bashing. I like the idea here as well as the line quality but it does not really work on the shirt. Also, you are using copyrighted characters, to me they are still recognizable as the simpsons. So that might be a problem.

there is something about this that I like. The pop culture reference of both The Simpsons as well as the Internet Video Youtube view window done in such an artistic free hand drawing style is very interesting. It has a sort of raw Andy Warhol take on Internet video. Plus I think it looks pretty good on the shirt. As a Simpsons fan I would consider wearing this.

This is too artistic for Threadless. I really like the line quality, and giving soft character to the cold, streamlined internet is a great concept. I'm imagining this as a drawing a YouTube-generation kid might make, like hung on a refrigerator. But no one will see past the trademarked characters.

This is awesome! I love how it goes against the norm of traditional t-shirt design. This has way more style and interest than the 3950374 watercolor for watercolor sake's BS. And the laid-back sketchy nature is divine! Keep it up, mr. pimpant! Homer & I love this.

While I'm not a very big fan of this particular piece, I -am- a very big fan of mr.pimpant because he so regularly challenges artistic boundaries. He made two of my all time favorite woot shirts. I campaigned hard for him at cameesa. I threw a near hissy fit of excitement when he came up here at April Fools and at Teefury soon after. Some people truly enjoy his unique sketchy style and frequently stark color schemes. It's not for everyone, but for his fans, that is part of the charm.

i'm a huge fan of very classic, straightforward and flattering placements on tees, especially when the actual graphic really plays with the accepted norms of what makes a 'nice' print. i love that you've actually just made a great looking tee instead of trying to be all 'graphic designer' about it. it's got that great, folksy feel of old moldy peaches album covers. great work! $5

while im not crazy about this, what i do enjoy about your work is that it seems to fill a personal need to capture moments in time and the energy associated with it. your images are like a visual recording of a thought before it escapes. i also think if you attempted to refine your images you would come close to losing it entirely. good stuff.
Seabs
Seabs on Jun 25 '09
I think this looks great on the tee and I quite like the linework.

however....... i'm genuinely confused about threadlesses acceptance policy - i had a tee declined initially because i had included a copyrighted character but somehow this one is ok. confused!
Kookaberry
   Kookaberry on Jun 25 '09
This isn't artistic arrogance! This is genuine skill. The amazing thing about his work is that on the surface it looks perhaps easy to do but in reality it's not at all. He has a really amazing way of capturing the essence of things. And as corey9 pointed out I believe refining it would completely lose a certain je ne sais quoi.

i agree with Seabs about how interesting this that it got through. because to me it is VERY obvious that it is The Simpsons.

however most of the haters arnt hating it for that reason, but for some childish "this is to different for my little brain to rap around reason". i think its an overall sweet concept and although I understand how some might dislike, besides the copyrighted characters, i enjoyed it.
(oh and LOL at the Wikipedia copyright link.... ohh Wikipedia)

Let's give this a realistic look. There is a fine line between art and ridiculous, and this is straddling the line. Marcel Duchamp 's fountain anyone? This is pushing everyone here to re-define 't-shirt acceptable..." which on a small scale, is a large feat. SO - props to you Mr. P - whether you meant to or not (which I suspect you did) You have my attention, though I would not wear the shirt. You have made this require artistic reflection - the first design in 1,800 I've scored to do so.

props!
that is inappropriate
that is inappropriate on Jun 25 '09
Obviously the copyrighted characters aren't a problem, as it's up for scoring. Threadless obviously believes that they are altered enough from their original form to be free from the copyright laws. And I do, too.

And now about the design: It rocks! Keep up the good work!

you know why this is good? because it's divisive. there's passion both for and against this design and that is the 'meaning' if there could be one, of the endeavor of making 'art'.

this is a perfect time capsule of culture icons done in a visually unsettling way which obviously, some really, really don't like. it's almost a perfect design. awesome stuff.

ShawnLogan
ShawnLogan on Jun 26 '09
Well, I guess I came off very harsh. Sometimes I let my lack of time constrain my ability to express my opinion in a more dynamic and decisive manner. I don't "hate" it, I just never really got behind this type of artistic expression; and I went to a 4 year private art college. It's just not my thing. I know the whys and whats and hows that many of the other people seem to like about it. I see that viewpoint and understand the illogic behind it - to a point - but I don't understand the way people elevate it to a groundbreaking, boundary pushing expression. It just looks like a half hearted doodle to me, an unfinished concept, a malformed idea, and rather dull. That's just me. But I understand why people like it. I might like it more if it had been done by an artist supported by the copyright (you aren't, are you?). I mostly think it's too close to copyrighted characters for this particular venue; however, apparently the admins don't. So best of luck.

randyotter3000
   randyotter3000 on Jun 29 '09
yea they most likely would and i know alot of my designs are pretty crappy but for me to like something there has to be a stand out feature that sells thes image and with this image there doesnt seem to be something, i think the fact that those are reconisable charcaters paired with the youtube window doesnt help the scribbly styling because you know how tese things should really look whereas if it was used to create something that wasnt reconisable as someones else image the strength of the linework and marks would be better appriciated

I think that's why this qualifies as artisitc. Because something that is inherently digital and appears on a screen with perfect straight lines and that can move has been recreated in the impression of a static pencil scribble. If it was a screencap of the youtube website, then this would be utter crap.

i love your work mr. pimpant.

there are multiple shirts on threadless that play on popular icons and recognizable symbols that are readily accepted. it seems that the tee has to be making an obvious, humorous point in order to be considered 'good'.

if you want a more graphic feel, look at the 100 + other designs. (nothing against those tees, of course!)

but i feel that this design caters to different tastes, which variety isn't a bad thing (is it?) but i feel this design brings forth another level of 'playing off of recognizable symbols' in which can cater to fresh and newer ideas. (if that makes sense~)

speaking of catering, this caters to my hearttttttt (aha~)$5
