Also, please don't spam other people's designs with "vote here". Of course we all want votes, and high ones, but there is a voting/ submission etiquette and it might be prudent to follow it just to make sure you don't get a bunch of anti-you votes.

About spamming: Spamming in the critique section is okay because else you don't get critiques. Spamming in the submission section is more like "you scratch my back and i scratch yours". I don't like that. Just let the design speak for itself. If it's good, it will get high points. |

This is helpful advise: don't ask for votes in someone else's design... it's considered rude by anybody who's been here for any amount of time. And that's your voting base, and some few of them can get pissed off about it, which can hurt your score. Posting links in critiques is fine. Making blogs to promote your design is fine. But links in other people's designs is rude.
Do you want everybody to just use your page here for links to their own stuff? That's not why you subbed, is it...? |

quister on Jun 06 '09 Put another way, consider that artists who sub their designs have just 7 days for it to be commented and voted on. I know they, and maybe you too, would expect everyone’s attention to be focused on their entry. It’s understandable then, that someone else trying to use an artist’s score page to solicit attention to his/her work is considered by many here to be disrespectful. It’s the equivalent of a painter walking into another artist’s show and telling people to visit his/her show down the block. Also, doing this is more likely to cause people to avoid your sub, push a lot of don’t submits and score your design badly when it’s up for scoring.

Spamming everyone else isn't going to get you better scores. In fact, it's going to cause people such as me, who would have ordinarily given you a decent score, to give you a zero. So, unless that is the effect you intended, I suggest you stop. Now. Thanks! :)

Spamming the forums with the same copy and paste message is pretty uncool. So is asking people to vote for you because you voted for them, especially when you didn't even vote for them (as your profile clears says you haven't rated any submissions).
For those reasons alone I hope your shirt doesn't get printed; what makes Threadless great is the stories behind the shirts, and your story is clearly not great. |

Well think of it like you're making your career debut... finally on the stage and everyone is there for you, to see you play your music and then some punk jumps onto the stage and yells "GO XYZ - YEHHH - THEY'RE PLAYING ACROSS THE FIELD". Imagine how upsetting that can be... It's someone else jumping in on your lime light... In the submissions-world of Threadless, it's the same. For some this is their first submission ever, and for others this is another design to add to the list... either way, it's THEIR limelight, not yours. Everyone gets a chance to vote on designs that get submitted, and you get to use the blogs to promote your design. You can even go into critiques to promote your design... or use the embedded code Threadless gives you on approval of your design. If you feel you are not getting the votes you're looking for, go crazy promoting yourself around the web, but NOT on other people's designs. It's rude and disrespectful for all the hard work they've done to get to this stage. Why we tell you about this? Because we care - that is: a) we don't like to see others spammed b) spamming unfairly promotes your designs over others c) we don't want you to get low votes in retaliation to this activity ...so please do not continue to spam other people's designs. |

You copy and pasted the exact same message on everybody's design. How can you not see how that is rude? Oh and also, there was all those people telling you it is rude, that should've been a clue.
And yes, everybody, it takes some time for the scoring figures in your profile to update so I'd believe him when he says he voted for you. But don't you feel like a bit of a douche only voting on designs once you yourself have one up for scoring? It only highlights how self-serving your spam is. The only reason you voted for anyone was to score a vote in return. If you'd actually participated in the two weeks since you've joined, you'd have had some info on your profile and people would've believed you when you said you scored them. As it is, you exposed yourself as and the process of spam as completely selfish. You didn't waste a single vote that could have been used to get yourself some exposure so why should other people have their work soiled with your advertisements? This is what we have to look forward to when this kind of crap goes unchecked. If people only vote for votes in return people will only comment for positive comments in return. |

That thing about positive comments is what will happen in the future. It won't happen obviously if you just copy and paste the fact that you voted. So I'm not saying you did it, just that in the future it'll happen.
And just another FYI, taong tite is a troll with an unrequited man-crush on a certain Alumnus. He lives to make trouble here. So whatever he tells you to do, do the opposite. A message of support from taong tite is a guaranteed indicator that what you're doing is wrong. |

You should indeed stop spamming. There's no excuse for doing it. If you join a community site you should just always find out the ettiqueete of the website and more importantly respect that. There are pretty good reasons for each ettiquette. The thing being said by taong tite is just straigth up bullshit. When I was a newbie I never got shit on me. The rules are here to keep it fair and scare. Anyways I hope you've learned from this mistake.
Another note: voting should always be fair. Don't give your 'friends' or 'popular people' high votes just because of their status. Just vote by what you truely feel about the design. Also don't vote high for somebody who voted for you just because they voted for you. A note for the people who voted a zero, because of the spamming: you guys are being just as rude as him now. Vote for the design, not the person! Good luck further on Threadless. Just make sure you follow the ettiquette and you'll be fine. People will forgive you for the newbie mistake. We've all been newbies, right? |

@ tomasappleton come on now. That's not totally how it is. Just because you're popular you won't necessarely score high no matter what the design looks like. And if there are people who vote like that I'm sure it won't make much of a difference for the final score. People who are popular/loved by their talents/loved by their unique style probably do get more votes since they're more well known. If something sucks, it still sucks if it's made by someone well known.
@ jokkesvin just keep on coming submitting and don't worry. In the end if you're good it doesn't matter who you are. No need to get a new account and have plastic surgery for a new face ;) |

I'll admit I'm following this thread with a sort of morbid fascination.
Jokkesvin, in regards to starting a new profile I have this to say; I certainly didn't appreciate your spamming, but you have been gracious and polite in ALL of your responses to this, and have taken everyone's opinion on board. I am convinced the spamming was not done out of any malicious intent, and that now that you know the threadless etiquette it won't be a problem. Not all of us will hold this mistake against you with any future votes... In my eyes at least you have shown grace under fire, and that counts for a lot. |

OK, I see that you have indeed voted and scored designs. I apologize on my part for my disbelief but you have to understand where I was coming from. I wasn't trying to be mean I was just trying to point out that when looking at your profile I saw no scores for any submissions so when I see you leave a comment saying you scored mine with no score proof in the profile, I tend to take it a little negative. I still kept my vote for you but I just want to get across my points here. SOrry for the inconvenience

Yeah this whole thing is pretty freaky ;) but I appreciate your feedback nonetheless. @ taz-pie I guess I derserve a little slapping yeah - Hmm, I've heard that some people actually like to be slapped :o haha. I totally don't agree with the mentality that you are somehow taking away from someone's submission by promoting your own. I'm happy you linked to yours off my page - I like your work, and might not have seen it otherwise. People have their panties in a knot over nothing. It's ridiculous.

I think people's (including my) main problem with your messages before is that you were copying and pasting the exact same message to everyone. When you are copying and pasting your link to everyone's design without taking the time to give them a critique (your previous comments to people's designs didn't count as a critique since you said the exact same thing to everyone) it amounts to spam. I don't think anyone cares if you include in your reply a request for them to rate your design and give them your link, it is just rude when they ONLY thing you reply to their design is a link to your design along with the exact same copy and paste message you replied to everyone else. (Also, some people may have taken your message to mean that you thought people should vote for your design to be printed simply because you voted for them, rather than you just requesting they rate you whatever they think is fair). It is good to see that you are now commenting on people's work rather than copying and pasting the same message to everyone. I am sure you can see why people were annoyed; I don't think you would appreciate it if the only comments you got to your design were people requesting you to rate their design when they couldn't even be bothered to give you a personal comment on yours. |

P.S. I do like the design.
If you are interested in any critiques, the only thing I can say is that I am not sure about the color, but that is probably just a personal preference... I am not a big fan of light-colored shirts (because I think they are generally not that flattering). |
