Roman soldiers were trained to fight well and to defend themselves. They used their shields to surround their bodies and protect themselves. This technique was called 'the turtle'.

hahah, this is great! the colors are okay, but you could really get them to pop if you added something vibrant, like green. but still, a pretty sweet design. id definitely buy this as a print. =]

Ok, I'm going to be the smarty pants know-it-all, but aren't they tortoises, and wasn't that Roman formation even called 'Testudo', which I believe translates as tortoise?

All that said, it's a good concept :)

damn. you are right. :p In Dutch there isn't really a different name for turtles and turtoises as far as I know.. The latin word is indeed testudo, which in Dutch is translated to 'schildpad' which is 'turtle' in English.

the soldiers are boss more work on the tortoise and this would be top notch but it is a great concept and I learned something new 5 for that!!!
