Ste7en on Mar 21 '09 This is my take on the Loves Green competition. I have seen lightbulbs with plants inside them before, but this idea is more about surrounding ourselves with natural solutions to harness renewable energy, instead of surrounding nature in man made solutions. 7 colors with an additional UV sensitive yellow ink, that further cements the idea that this is all about the power of nature.

Dude, this is so great! I love the way you used the UV ink and I love the placement and size. My only hope is that WHEN this prints it also gets printed in kids' sizes. :)

The design is fantastic, except for one thing: the lightbulb. You are using an incandescent lightbulb for your model, which is the least energy-efficient bulb to use. The message would be a lot stronger if it was an L.E.D. or a compact-florescent lightbulb, which are the two leading energy-efficient bulbs in production.
I would really encourage changing the bulb, otherwise, the message is lost. |

Ste7en on Mar 26 '09 I would argue that the message itself would be lost because people would not, as a whole, recognize the silhouette of any other type of bulb. What is used to tell the message is not necessarily, intrinsically tied to how best to follow through on the message. The Iconography of the traditional bulb makes the concept easily recognizable, and being able to recognize the concept is the most important part, in my opinion.
Further, the concept is about renewable energy and not energy efficiency. So while the two compliment each other to some extent, it was not the intent of this design to specifically convey energy efficiency as much as it was to find renewable, clean sources of energy, such as sunlight. |
