listen,
i LOVE your designs, several of which have been printed, and e.x.e. cutioner is one of my favorite shirts, thus i'm super hesitant to critique your design, but... with all due respect, the composition of this is way too unbalanced; far too right-heavy. either the whole thing should be moved to the left, or there ought to be butterflies flying to the left as well as the right, in my opinion. |

I agree with ph03n1x, only I think this should be moved to the left of the shirt. Having butterflies flowing out to the left wouldn't solve this problem.

This is beautiful. I like the design all on one side. It doesn't seem unbalanced to me. It is balanced by the space on the left.

i really want to like the concept and design, but something doesn't work for me. maybe it is the scale of the pen in relation to the boy. maybe if the size of the boy and pen were de-emphasizd and the butterflies were enlarged

Still a really nice piece as usual with outstanding color work.

beautiful illustration style, sparing use of colors shows true skill. i can't help but think of Adobe Photoshop and InDesign CS2 by the combination of the butterflies and blue feather.

i actually think the composition would work better if the whole thing were moved to the left side. i like the asymmetry... i have no problem with it being side-heavy, but it's unbalanced, and that is because the line of the feather and the curve of the butterflies points toward the right edge, and because the whole design is on the right side of the shirt, that line has nowhere to go. if the design were shifted over to the other side, the curving line would enhance the design by making the eye move around the rest of the shirt, and the composition as a whole would feel more balanced.
other than this problem, which is easy to fix, i like the design very much. i like your style, and the colors you chose are beautiful. well done. |
