About my design

by Mathmatic
The ghosts of pray brings stench and decay.

The hunter become the haunted.

An old idea of mine. Simple yet effective.

Should come with spooky glow-in-the-dark colors too (see top right).

Enjoy mohaha.

a little boxy on top . . . you might want to do something about that. Otherwise it is a cool design.

An absolutely gorgeous illustration, and very well executed. The way the top crops bothers me though, while the other sides end in an organic shape. It makes everything look a bit truncated and rectangular.

Still, very well done!

Hmm i guess you're right about the top. Dammit. Oh well.

:D

My take: aside from the top issue, I personally don't care for the non-translucent horns and think that the deer's "sheet" needs to be a bit more form fitting somehow.... but you probably want to get a second opinion on that stuff.

Nuh uh! No "oh wells" allowed! You've got a great idea here! And one almost perfectly executed at that! So don't sell your design short by settling for mediocrity! Get some more critiques, fix it up a little based on the feedback you recieve and resubmit the thing!

Ok first of all: The horns are in fact translucent (check the close up, guess it's hard to see all the details). Second of all: The "sheet" is an anatomically correct fit of the original outline of the deer (except for the bottom part of course). And in my opinion there's nothing mediocre about this design except maybe the top of the background.

Yeah but i won't give up that's for sure. Thanks for the feedback.

i would have preferred the ghost outlines to follow the original animal shape, it kind of looks to me as if the deer skeleton is wearing a transparent nightgown ;-) besides that, i think it's a really great design, creating an atmosphere!

Thanks for the critique! But the outlines are already following the animals original shape, except at the bottom. The whole idea was to take the classic cliched ghost "sheet" and apply it on animals/animal skeletons in the forest. That's the whole general idea and sorry but i can't change that. If i changed that detail it wouldn't be original at all.

strangely beautiful... really like the transparent effect used for the animals!

The bottom of the line needs to fit the shape of the animal. That moose doesn't seem like a real moose otherwise. I see you point, but yeah...

Alove4music: Ok, hmm, but you just contradicted yourself right there. If you see my point then you wouldn't question my idea. Off course it's a "real" deer, the skeleton is 100% anatomically correct.

i wish the elk didnt have the ghostly "sheet" draped over it. i think it would be really cool if just the body outline was transparent. the sheet look seems too corny. but a great concept. maybe work on it some more and resub it.

everyone understands that the 'sheet' effect was intentional, but no one likes it! you seem to think that because it was intentional it is somehow the only/right way to execute this design. if you are interested in making an image to please the masses that will sell, you will sacrifice this small element. if you are interested only in producing work to satisfy yourself, you're definitely presenting it in the wrong arena.

kinkado: First of all, there are several people that in fact like it, both here at threadless and some of my fellow illustrators and artists, that i've showed it to in person. I'm off course aiming to please both myself and "the masses" (as you put it). But i would never compromise beyond the point of loosing my style and identity as a designer and artist. It's fine, I'd rather not get printed than changing too much of my original idea (if i don't agree with the suggested changes off course) and get something printed that's "not me". Off course i believe strongly in my work (a must for any artist) and I may be new here at threadless but i've been illustrating professionally for many years. Believe i or not but I actually listen closely to all the critique that i've been given here at threadless and some of it's been really eye-opening and constructive as well as objective. And some have been more subjective, a matter of personal taste.

sorry mathmatic - i honestly misinterpreted your attitude and thought you were just being stubborn. it is of course always good to stay true to your artistic identity, and i didn't mean to say that just because i (and a few others) don't like it that you "SHOULD" change it. good luck!

I like the design but I would agree with some of the others in a desire to see the ghostly outline around the deer.

^so it follows the deers form- and maybe make the horns more visibly (haha) transparent
