This piece celebrates the Mexican tradition of Day of the Dead whereby ancient rituals celebrated the deaths of ancestors. I have used traditional imagery combined with with more modern illustrative techniques to illustrate the movement of the day for the deceased to break free and communicate with their living family members. The use of colour is sombre yet striking using limited colours to commemorate that it is also a time of mourning and not just celebration. The ink technique I would like to use would be half water base half plastisol in order to translate the transition of life and death, a faded transition of time and space, love and loss.
