About my design

by lostinbrooklyn
Another from the LIB retro-file. We thought it kinda ominous that at the "Paradise Motel" that there is "No Vacancy." Fairly thought provoking I guess...color scheme this time was more earth-toned & worn. Retro without being 1950's colors. Perhaps something the grounds keeper might have warn.

It reminds me of american eagle and stores of that sort.

Yes, the final color direction in this application is towards the American Eagle, Fossil and Aéropostale crowd. In the original version we used very 1950-60's clors. Hot pink, blue, chartreuse...and the like.

Wanted to do something a bit different, for Tiki/lounge culture, that is.

I may have said the same thing twice (trice)...darn interface.

And yes, it may have been a 'dis from Rogue, but I believe in constructive criticism...yep.

Ouch, feeling attacked...but, keep em coming. Should have stuck with the retro colors I guess. Tuff crowd!

In defense of Mr. Brooklyn, there's a reason AE stuff sells like hell, and "art-faggy" stuff doesn't. My personal opinion is that if art doesn't serve some practical purpose, it's useless. In the case of Mr. Brooklyn (and myself, by the way) I suspect the primary purpose is to put food on the table.

Best o' luck to ya all.

Your design is nice and very pleasing to the eye and all, but this isn't the plave for it, really. I mean, the ads for threadless say "T-shirts for the rest of us", and this is something that you could see at any teen store in the mall. I mean, why would anybody buy it here when they could get the same thing on the American Eagle sale rack?

I appreciate mossface's comments and totally understand everyone's comments, especially Shortytheduck's. But, beeing a new-bie here, we're throwing up some of our stuff to see what sticks, stinks or sells. That's what all of this about right?

We'll keep doing "our thang" AE, Aero or not (whom we do work for to make the bucks!) and see if we can't do some more funs tuff that's OK with the avante crowd out there. Keep the comment's a' coming.

lostinbrooklyn - i like your design. it's obvious that you're a good designer and do this kind of thing for a living. went and checked out your website, very tight work. understand that the threadless crowd is anti-ae and the like...which i'm sure you've picked up by now. i am a creative director and use threadless as an opportunity to stay current with this anti-mainstream mob. it keeps my own design sharp because it challenges me to push my work into something that i find appealing and satisfies the threadless jury. one other thing, just because the threadless crowd loves a shirt does not mean it will get printed. apparently it has nothing to do with the scoring system - t designs get chosen by the threadless staff, not by the highest score. the great part is getting to browse (and judge) such a vast array of work. i look forward to seeing more work from lostinbrooklyn.

Mezzarip,

Thanks much for the kind words. I too will continue to challenge my self (and the studio's) tallents and see what fols think. Between this and Designologue.com. It's almost like a master class...and good way to blow off some creative steam.

Creative director? Where, love to see your work. E-mail us directly thru our site if you feel like showing off yer goods.

Thanks again for the support! and for all the input from the threadless.com crew
