About my design

by mammalwear
The instructions on the back of the tee read;

"HOW TO JUGGLE

1. Begin by gently lobbing one ball from your right hand to your left hand. Continue to toss the ball back and forth between your hands until you are comfortable throwing and catching.

2. Now add another ball. Hold one ball in your right hand and one in your left hand. As you lob the ball from your right hand to your left hand, throw the ball from your left hand to your right hand, and then catch the ball that was thrown first, with your left hand. Continue in this fashion, making sure both balls are moving in a nice arc. This will allow you more time to catch and throw.

3. Finally, replace the balls with strange and dangerous objects that will be bound to impress anyone standing around watching you."

Print in 8 colours.

Thank you. Please consider the text as optional when voting.

If you're going to have text on the back, it HAS to be way bigger than that. I can barely read it on screen, let alone on a shirt as some guy passes me by wearing it. And when you say optional, consider this: most voters are looking at this for a second, not reading what you have to say, voting, and moving on. So first of all, they won't know that you want the text to be optional. Also, consider this entry as a fancy office presentation to the guys at Threadless - this is your powerpoint presentation, you're selling it to them and you want them to buy it. It doesn't sound too strong if you say, "Oh, but, remember, text optional!" You have to say, "This shirt rocks, it's perfect the way it is, and you need to buy it just like this, right now." Plus, Threadless rarely alters shirts after they've been selected except for some colour correction for technical print reasons. They're not the ones making the design decisions here, they just choose what to print based on what's good, feasable and popular; you're the designer and it's your job to make these decisions (and Threadless won't print two versions) and that includes either keeping or leaving the text.

This is nothing against you in particular, by the way. I just see so many entries where designers say "Well, you can change that later." or "I'll alter it or make up my mind when it's printed." That's just not how it works and not how to bring the designs to the table and it bothers me. I think a lot more people need to go through the critique forum first. Anyway, good luck!

Thanks very much for commenting on my shirt Silent-T, obviously a lot of thought went into it. I will take your critiques on board, albeit with a pinch of salt, as your sales success and design scores don't yet speak for themselves.

The text on the back is obviously not something that you read while walking passed someone. The design on the front carries the tee and is enough to impress anyone quickly scoring it. However, the text on the back is a subtle bonus, akin to another design which scored quite well: http://www.threadless.com/submission/178102/Identifying_Flying_Objects

The idea was to add a little depth to the thsirt, as smusi recognised.

Anyway, thanks again!

Really cute idea, and I like the text. Don't get rid of it.

I'm not opposed to the text. I just want the little flourishes on the corners to relate to the design on the front somehow. LOVE the front.

I haven't been to clown school, but I've been told by lots of people over the years that they learnt to juggle by starting with juggling two balls with one hand. That being said, I still really liked your little pictures, I'd just change the right hand on the 2 figure because it was too obviously a copy/paste of the right hand on 1.

no text on back, and have the balls in an arc above the person's head (because in the first step he kind of looks like he's the gimp form pulp fiction with a red ball crammed into his mouth), and you will be onto something.
