Love it, so fanciful and fancy feast! Love the cat's expression and the transition from drawn cat to the cat drawing a fish. I like it on white somehow more, although i'm rarely a fan of white.

this is very quickly turning into a trend for me: everyone says "wow" and "great" and i still think that there are issues to be resolved. I don't mean to be an ass, but i think you should know what my issues are:
there is very little contrast. it is a very pale image, and the colors that should be vibrant and popping (like the green of the fish) just aren't.
second, the shading is very un-natural. the shadows underneath the fish and the cat are pretty far away from the actual shapes they would be. also, i think that there should be some slight shading on the objects themselves, not just under them, like you started to do on the paint board or whatever it's called. you hatched it just a little bit which made it look a lot better. this would be easily accomplished on the cat by adding more lines for fur in certain places.
finally, i reach the most awkward part of my critique: the ears of the cat... sorta look like giant nipples. without any depth to them, they look like big pink round things that are not in the least concave like an ear is. this would be really easily fixed with a little darkness inside of the ear.

I want you to know that even though im the only person actually giving you criticism i dont hate your piece or anything. quite the opposite: it's a great concept, it's well drawn, and i cant get over how awesome that fluffy tail is. keep up the good work, and if you wind up resubmitting this design, consider my advice on improvement.

I seem to remember we all gave this piece criticism when you posted your WIP in the blogs and you improved it accordingly. I think the shadows look great, especially where the fish's shadow crosses the piece of paper and the curl in the paper is a nice touch.

thanks squatter and everyone.

Nathan: It seems you feel my design has a lot of room for improvement. Working with a limited color palette (that's the word you were looking for) you have to let some things be assumed which i do believe they are. As you are the only one who has mentioned these things.

Fun concept, (I couldn't help but smile), beautifully illustrated. Natural works best for me. $5

I wasn't talking about the colors you had to work with doing the piece, i was talking about the thing you drew that's a board with paint on it. I was saying that you shaded it a little bit at the top with hatching (which is the term for those shading lines) and it looks really good. you also did it on the tubes of paint. the rest of your piece would improve with some of the same: all you would have to do is add a few more lines here and there over the cat and fish, and it would add a far better sense of depth.

How can you draw that well? It's just like... baffling. That anyone could have so much talent. I can't even draw a simple circle without making it look like a three year old's attempt!!

Bloody fantastic design x
