I wanted to see how minimal you could go to convey the idea of horror without using the tried and trusted cliches of skulls, bats etc I narrowed it down to using the colour red (blood red in this instance) as a symbol of horror.
It stems back to an age when all special effects were done by hand using paint, wood, nails etc I was also playing around with the idea of specifying a colour name for horror like you see in those swatch books that have ridiculous names likes 'fresh morning mist' what would you call a colour used to convey the notion of horror?
Its set up as a 3-colour at the mo thinking of using a metallic clear on the can and maybe puff ink for the red to give it that retro 3d look!
could have been really neat without the text and with a more dynamic composition like the pail having been tossed over to, in effect, suggest something horrific happening 'behind the scenes'.
visually it's really dull to me like this though, especially those digital paint drips, but it's a very good non-linear/original idea.
taking on board your comments but the the idea was to to be subtle and minimal i was shying away from the heavy-metalesque submissions that have littered this competition.
