I wish i could see some of your illustration outside of robots and urban landscapes.

It's already getting somewhat monotonous.

Jawa, keep 'em coming. This is one of my favorites from your series. Love the cityscape.
If they ever print one of your designs, I'll have to purchase a paper print (are they still offering that, I haven't read the fine print in a while) - this would look ill framed in my living room. - j

i like the style, very futura/unkle. (maybe a bit too much?)

this i think would work as a print, but for a tee shirt i think the cityscape needs to link/work better with the character.
maybe incorporate the characters style of drawing in some parts of the city, possibly a vechicle or lampost... i dunno i just think it looks like two seperate items at the moment.

Like he says. ^ The urban monster doesn't need the city.

Really like this one. Am I the only one who thinks the cityscape should stay?
Lucazzz
Lucazzz on Mar 31 '04
> Vulnus - or the city doesn't need the urban monster. Skip the monster and add something to the cityscape?
jbyron
   jbyron on Mar 31 '04
The contrast in in style from the background to the foreground is clearly intentional. Not only does this give the piece balance, but it makes the character stand apart. Not to mention that losing the monster would take away the originality that jawa has established for himself. He's one of the few cats whose work I can recognize on sight. Sometimes this means the artist needs to broaden his/her horizons, but I don't think that's the case here.

I love it!

It’s perfect.

Reminds me of the Infesticons (not the style, but the subject matter, if that makes any sense :P)

Totally agree with jbyron, both the robot and the landscape compliment each other...
Losing one of them would lose the complexity of the design.

In style it's very similar to a lot of the Shynola collective's work, not a bad thing. If you feel the need to have both the figure & the cityscape I'd shrink down the latter & set the robot to the right of it. In the current design where they overlap it is a touch noisy.
Jawa
Jawa on Apr 01 '04
i think they need to overlap to interact. they arent really noisey because the cityscape is simplified to two block lines on the right.

if they were seperate then it would look silly. billy.

like a logo, even if theres some fault in it like not being totally ground breaking/original ones, we'll get use to it after awhile.. does it mean its good because its recognisable? some might say..

evolution will be goodfor your works.

a good blend with the vector buildings here, but should make them smaller..

i still think this isnt complete.. maybe its the colors.

juz a question not a suggestion...
what if you cut away the city where the character is? leaving bits of the city still visible on the right
this might still leave the impression that the character is in the foregrd city in back
character still stands out.
only bad thing is no overlap > possibly detracts from your style/opinions?
would that help or destroy your artwork?

i think transmute said something interesting... adding more objects in the same style could be fun? except maybe the character is less the focal point...

and Mr. Mike is probably drawn more to the contrast between gray shirt and white fill than green character
so i would read that he sees it as the filled buildings are too obvious not to notice and the unfilled character he does not notice as much...

i haven't said anything mean at all!

i hope this helps....

Ian Barlow on Apr 06 '04
i think the design is killer, i would leave the cityscape in as well but alter it slightly. right now it kind of dominates the composition and makes the figure a secondary item.

knivesout had a good idea with knocking the figure out of the background. i might also try sizing the background down quite a bit and making a longer cityscape that is much skinnier... does that make sense? like instead of having three buildings maybe have a long landscape of twenty or so tiny ones with electrical lines and stuff going all over. anyway i think im starting to babble a bit so ill leave it at that.

again, killer killer shirt.
