I'd say those are definitely not "subtle" differences. I don't think this looks anything like the printed design.
But why doesn't this bird have a tail? No tail feathers at all!

Oh my!! That's true, no tail! Well, the reason is, it's a very unique and rare species of robin red breast :)

I really like your colors and I like the font and sublety there. But now that it's been pointed out the missing tail is kind of disconcerting...

Apart from the lack of tail, the robin was referenced from a photograph. It's totally a robin.

give it another go, maybe with a tail

I like this one way better than the one with the canary in the rib cage.
