My sister says that the sound of a butter knife scraping blackened toast over the sink in the morning is the sound of love. I don't know about that, but it certainly does evoke our mom in SOME way. I've promised myself that unless it's the last bread in the house, if I burn the toast, I'll make my kids some more and give the burnt stuff to the birds.
