About my design

by uraniumcranium
As we travel towards the Heavens on this great odyssey that is life, we must remember that our existence on Earth is just as fleetingly fragile and beautiful as a bubble.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi all!

This is my first design for Threadless and the first thing I drew with Illustrator.

Minor details people have missed seeing this: The 3 bubbles in the lower left is a pregnant woman & some of the lighting is meant to subtlely convey some of the bubbles' hairstyles.

----------------------------------------------------------------

In anticipation to claims that my design shares a similar concept to Simple Art's Growing tee design (http://www.threadless.com/submission/180448/Growing), I wish to say that I came up with this concept entirely independently, about a week before I even saw the Growing design, even though there's no way I can prove it online.

In fact I got inspired from random bubble emoticons amongst a pile of shoddy doodles an immature relative was drawing (mainly cartoon genitals).

Though Simple Art's design is great in its own way... I believe that mine has its own merits with its concept of life initiating from the womb of a pregnant lady and the metaphor of life as fragile, beautiful and temporary as we eventually vanish into the heavens.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Thanks to: A certain immature relative who occasionally gives me gems of inspiration and all the threadless critiquers for making me continually improve on the design.

This idea of an object going from young to old in human terms has been around longer than your design, that other candle design, and even the perfected version of this concept, the Ages of the Mandelion which will hopefully be printed up, so don't worry about comparisons to them. As long as you do it with an object no one has done before and add your own spin, it's all good.

It's a cool concept, especially with the "pop" at the end of the design, but i think the additional bubble at the bottom of the design, above the bubble maker, is really distracting. Other than that, a nice idea done well. Also, maybe stretch out the bubble that hasn't escaped from the maker yet.

Thanks guys for the support!

@Supertrooper. Well the words/haiku aren't really going to appear on the shirt. But I know what you mean. I now wish I kept my description restrained to a degree to see what people honestly see at first glance.

Thanks frikinawesome and I see where you are coming from about the additional bubble. I personally prefer the pregnancy bubble character purely because I have a friend expecting a baby soon.

Thanks for the heads up on the 'Ages of Mandelion' shirt, I definitely will keep an eye out for that one if it pops up.

I guess he's using travel in a broader sense as in travelling to death/heaven etc. Love the concept.

Yeah the bubbles will definitely be scaled larger on the actual shirt and the bubble in the bubble wand will be stretched out a bit more.
