This has a really good message, I must say that I might not be the prime example of a "tree hugger", but I would sport this tree. GO GREEN. I like how you started with some outlines on the leaves at the bottom and then faded out, nice transition

yeah i would have loved to add more things to the design but i didnt want to over complicate it...i wanted to keep the colours to a minimum.... otherwise origianlly i had so many shades of brown for the tree trunk - though it looked better it would make it less printable.... also... i kind of wanted her to be reaching out with a sort of sad look on her face...reflective of the state the earth is in....

besides, the design is already 8 colours...

wow, so you posted an ad on craigslist to get people to vote on your design? interesting technique...



as for the design though, a lot of it doesn't seem to be working (apparently only for me). the straight across grass cuts the shirt in half, it would have been beneficial if you hadn't gone so far with that horizon line or even if you had just strayed a bit towards the bottom more.

the sun rays are harsh as well as the black outlines (SO THICK in some parts) for such a serene sentiment.

the woman's chin is also pretty weird.



the whole concept is just completely trite to me. it seems that no matter what the image, as long as there's the smallest sentiment of environmentalism people eat it up.

Actually I think its an excellent idea. At least 60% of success in art is marketing yourself. Since threadless is an online thing..where would be another good place to go market yourself? hmmm --another place where people gather online - like craigslist. Ginetteginette, tell me, are you just bitter because you didnt think of it first? well here are some other promotional tricks for you, so that you arent as hateful; You can promote your design on myspace, facebook - maybe even your own website.



Sadly, I wasted a couple of minutes of my time looking at your stuff - your art is mediocre at best. Even if it were any better, I doubt you'd get too far with such an attitude. I'm pretty new to threadless but people on here seem pretty genuine and helpful to other designers...I have yet to come across another user as insecure as you.



and - I really like this design.

i merely found the craigslist thing interesting, and i'm not surprised you took the 'art is meant to get reactions' route as soon as you find yourself face to face with some little criticisms, a lot of 'artists' tend to do that.

Wow, that is one angry reaction over a design! I never realized that there were haters on threadless. I guess its only natural when your own designs are not even close to being decent.



This design is a million times....no wait...100 million times better than anything ginette has posted on here. No wonder none of her 20+ submissions have won anything.



I would definitely buy this shirt, mainly because it actually shows that the artist is talented. Unlike some other people's work.

I really love the concept (I've even drawn something similar before) but I think something is off in the execution. The body proportions feel a little odd to me. Maybe the hand-branches need to be a little longer or more like hands?

I like the idea of her being pregnant with the world but I think the delineation between mama and her baby is too harsh.

I think that this concept is nothing new. "Mother Nature" is a popular theme right now because our world is so fucked up. Your style is okay. I don't really like the art at all and I don't think it looks good on a shirt. The grass just divides the shirt in half there isn't anything interesting to look at under it. The overall composition is just bad.



The thing that separates you and ginetteginette is that she does art that is crazy and art that no one has seen before. So don't criticize her when all you have done is a bad take on an old idea.

I think the concept is very unusual. I like the ray of sun shining down, but I think the black in the image gives it a clip art look. I think if you used dark green for shadow in the leaves, and dark browns in the tree and her face it would look better. The placement of the tree is perfect, I like how the ray is coming from the shoulder.

I'm totally thinking like Ginette. And add a sadistic and hysterical laugh for the fun.

graded - I don't like the beams of light.. I'm not sure what else you can do with them --- but its just too direct and plain.

I don't understand why one artist (Ginette) is being rude to another... Shouldn't artists actually support each other within this hard industry?



Anyways- I just wanted to say that promoting herself on craigslist was a BRILLIANT idea. What a better way to promote ones self on an online community like threadless than on another popular online site like craigslist? I think she should even have her own page on facebook and maybe she can update that as she does various events etc... She has actually adevrtised for threadless and in doing so promoted a lot of other people's work by having people who would have never seen this site see it and possibly buy a couple of shirts from it. Whats wrong with that?



As for Annie's art- I actually don't know the artist personally- but I can tell you that I know her work VERY well. I came across her website through one of her online promotions (I constantly travel so its all about online for me) and since then I have been purchasing art from her in all sorts of forms (t-shirts, posters, cards etc). Definately a wide range of skills- my clients love her work too- I believe I can sell this design to one of my environmental clients (I'll email you privately for that Annie). ;)



Anyways- thats just my 2 cents. So people- stop hating... this is supposed to be 'good and constructive' sharing of opinions- not art/people bashing!

Its one thing to give suggestions and another to tell someone that their idea is uninspired. How does someone even know what inspires another. I can say the same about someone who makes a multi-limbed monster, playing the guitar while slam-dunking. What inspiration went in that? Did you run into one the other day?



I have to agree with Wonderland80 that marketing yourself as an artist is brilliant. Obviously it really worked for the artist as even people who hate it have spent time critiquing it. Good job annienaseem and keep up the great work!

Just popped in to see why this got so many comments, and it's like stepping back in time to a world where illustration hasn't happened yet.

Mountain Gnome: I don't believe ur incharge of what people post where. Secondly, i agree its pretty annoying when people post links to their designs in other peoples subs... if i did it... must have been a copy/paste mistake - where i thought it was a critique and later realized it wasn't...since there isnt a delete option - not much can be done about it. So ease up ....and cut back on the holier-than-thou-ness.....ever considered that you might not be making friends here that way?

Annie: I don't think I am in charge here, just it seems to be a mistake that you make more often. It is quite easy to see if you are in the critiques section or voting on subs. The only reason I mentioned it is because you seem to be doing it often. It is also a common mistake that new members make, and they most often will follow your example. Just pay more attention to what you are doing please.

As a concept, it's unique. The colours are great. Spot on. The lines are a little thick but otherwise well executed.



Not sure if it really works for me though. Having touble putting my finger on it. I can't help but think what is she rooted to? Earth? But isn't that in her belly? And is Earth yet to be born? And if so when is she due and what does in mean for us? What's in store for us out of the womb? And those sun rays look a little painful.
