This graphic stare-off battle started as 2 separate pencil drawings. I usually draw in pencil or ink pens, then scan and re-create & color in Illustrator.
I don't usually come with a concrete idea for a drawing in advance, so I never know where my pen(cil) will take me. I sometimes find myself battling a blank page. I keep staring and staring at the tiny fibers and specks on the paper in attempt to figure out what to draw. If nothing comes up for a while, I get angry and start to violently draw random lines. Then suddenly I begin to see a shape, an image emerges out of all this chaos of ink and graphite. It practically jumps out at me - how come I didn't see it before? All I have to do now is to "connect the dots" together and add details. And if it takes a violent staring battle with the blank piece of paper, then so be it... as long as the paper doesn't win...
