zero because i'm not included. i imagine at least a thousand other voters are going to agree with me and this will get dropped early.
He says that the logical implication of every photograph is death. I feel the same way about drawings.
what does that mean? |
You know I love this - it's all out straight wonderfulness. $5 with the $ on both print and tee... I also used to study a bit of Barthes, so I approve wholeheartedly of the concept :)
This is absolutely incredible! The time and effort that you put into this paid off in a huge way. An epic accomplishment.
The liquefied hair tentacles are still quite impressive. So is your art stamina. You've outdone yourself, friend.
Amazing design even if I didn't know anyone in it.
You're dedication to improving your own skill set is both impressive and inspiring. 5 |

Oh and thanks for all the comments so far. This whole thing is a little close to the bone for me so I'm especially glad people are digging it.
dude, thanks for the explanation. that's really cool. i will have to read Camera Lucida for sure.
and as said above me, it's an amazing illo. |
This is fantastic & I really appreciate all the hard work you put into this. You have mad drawing skills & I am insanely jealous.
I'd buy this, but what I really want is a list of who they all are. Eyepatch man is my favorite.
Very nice dsecription. |

i've never heard anyone encapsulate drawing so beautifully. You will make incredible and important things. This is the most refreshing thing I have seen since mr.pimpant.
wow. this really is a masterpiece.
the amount of work you put in this must have been staggering, i am truly amazed. 5 no doubt |
great quote and great attempt. It feels like some areas are unresolved or unfinished compared to the upper right area though.
Really suprised to see this score less than 3. The votards strike again. I'll say it again - amazing drawing.
Again, another topnotch design pwned by the majority Threadless voters who cater to the likes of cutesy 7-yr old designs.
But for sure this will become a print anyway. Congrats! |
2.68? I figured this would have easily been a 3 with no problem what so ever. *crosses fingers for a print*
I really don't think the score matters in this case. This deserves more than just a t-shirt as a canvas.
greats stuff.....any chance on elaborating how you made the flash presentation? ..that totally blow me away...sick zooming love it....

The first thing I should say is this: I spent more time on this design that anything else in my life. This is not an exaggeration. What you see here is the product of three weeks of solid work. Twenty one days of five to ten hour sittings. Four gigabytes of art files. I devolved into a Howard Hughes style parody of myself. I got sick. I didn’t sleep. I drew.
It is difficult for me to explain this satisfactorily, and there is probably a huge gulf between what I intended the design to convey and how many of those intentions are clear.
The first is that drawing is a challenge. Every drawing should be better than your last. I wanted to see how far I could push myself, both in quality and quantity.
The second is that drawing is also an exercise. I have been grinding pencils to nubs trying to improve myself. I wanted to work on a piece that would break me in and teach me new things as well as demonstrating how far I’ve come in the last year. Working on this design has taught me so much, and I feel I’m better for it.
The third is style. I wanted to mix rigid technical reference with the fluidity of free drawing. I wanted to make something that was both monstrously complex and deceptively simple.
The last is that drawing is, to me, intensely personal. That’s the subject matter: Friends, family, relationships and blood. It also explains the skull. It might be generic, it might not have been the best choice to win, but it is what I wanted.
The real explanation comes from Roland Barthes in Camera Lucida. He says that the logical implication of every photograph is death. I feel the same way about drawings.
He probably wouldn’t agree.
Thanks to all my friends who sent reference photographs and put up with my neuroses.
And thanks especially to Phil, who knocked it out of the park. Again.
