About my design

by Yggdrasil
This is the first part of what I intend to be a much larger drawing. It is my own play on "The Garden of Earthly Delights" by Hieronymus Bosch. I wanted the shirt to look like it was made from an old drawing, like one of the pages out of Da Vinci's codex, with fold lines, mold and ink splotches on the page. I even originally had the Japanese script for "Zen Garden Earth Delight" in red but it looked too trendy and took away from the drawing. So here it is sans script with just the right amount of mold and aging. Hope you like it.

My first two thoughts:

Your aging techniques are really successful here. Glad you strayed from the typical distressed look. You definitely succeeded in the look you were going for. Kudos!

Oh, and: So many phalluses!

Yeah, love the drawing but I agree with cyanidee... bigger/bolder is better in this instance...

great rough line quality edges.

I'd wear it on a gray.

Great illu, but I'd make it bigger, for a fuller coverage, colour can stay out, just make sure there isn't too much white space when it's enlarged

Umm that's a NO on the color as it would go against the whole idea. As for the bigger, I wouldnt go quite as big as you suggest Cyanidee because you lose the aged look but I would very much like to have made it at least half again bigger. I guess I just dont understand the threadless size guidelines because with the splotches that would be about the limits of their specific measurements.

why would color go against the idea? i think gradients work for this but not full color

also i wouldn't worry about size. they can print the full shirt, example and if they won't/don't want to then they adjust it themselves.

"...I wanted the shirt to look like it was made from an old drawing, like one of the pages out of Da Vinci's codex..."

I can't imagine that having any color.

i thought this could go big enough where the top of that tentacle crosses over the shoulder to the back of the shirt.

yeah, I'm against any color for this, and looking at it now, going a little bigger wouldn't hurt. I'm personally a fan of off-centered placement, so I guess I'm a little biased in liking the placement.

Actually, I really dig the off-centered-and-lowered look--if it were any larger it would totally kill that. I say keep it just like it is (not that there's much you can do now anyway).

Oh god, what is that worm dude doing to shakyamuni!!?!

Pretty sweet, needs better placement, the "distressed" look feels a bit messy-pixelated.

Brilliant drawing as is. No need for colour, especially not gradients - line or fill.

Really nice illo, doesn't need color, but I think bigger placement would work as well.
