Your animals are so beautiful and I love the strong concepts you always bring into your designs. This one is just amazing.

research and conceptual thinking pay off big time--I didn't bother reading your explanation because your drawing says it all. great visual communication

Simply a genius piece of work. The video is fantastic and adds another layer to the tone of the design. How long did this actually take to draw?

Thanks for all the great comments, I do appreciate it. This was an intense design to work on, as it was the first time I ever spent 3 hours drawing a sketch, only to erase it all.

I wish it was a hippopotamus instead, maybe eating something, but it's still pretty good. I love you.

I am very pleasantly shocked to see this level of quality and amazingness. This is like the opposite of gimmick...it's honest to goodness crafterliness and abdomnical cruch. Spectacular.

The straight eraser line kind of gives the impression that he is peering over an object like a countertop and looking to pounce.

Yes, I though he was half submerged underwater at first. Brilliant concept and execution. Fantastic. 5

About my design
Hi,
For this contest I thought a lot about the natural process of drawing. I wanted to do something that would get all the dirt in there, the smears and smudges, the eraser bits, the spontaneity and imperfection that comes from sketching. I really wanted to figure out a way to put emphasis on the eraser. So I started messing around with the idea of drawing something that is obsolete, and using the eraser to work with this idea. Since I've been on a kick for drawing animals lately, I decided to sketch a Caspian Tiger. The Caspian Tiger is one of three modern extinct tigers. The last known Caspian was shot in 1947, but the exact date of extinction is unknown. The idea would be to draw a detailed pencil sketch of the tiger, and then after it was drawn, to erase pretty much all of it and leave the smudges and bits on the design.
So, that's what I did, I stopped erasing when I got to the eyes and then I used a spray adhesive to keep the eraser bits on the page for scanning the image.
