What Democracy means to me:

We, the citizens, control our government. They do not control us.

We elect representatives to carry out our common goals, not theirs'.

Somewhere along the line we stopped exercising our voice, our rights, our power. After a while we forgot the puppets are on strings, and so did the puppets.

Let's take back our control and VOTE!

optamistic?

Optimistic? Yes. I find true democracy to be very positive.

Obviously, I don't actually want our representatives to be strung up by strings. It’s entirely figurative.

Democratic systems are complicated. This was the best way I thought to simply execute the idea of democracy.

Maybe the face being scratched out is throwing off what’s so optimistic about it. But the figure is faceless because many governments are democratic. The faces change depending on where you are from and when.
