Not a single negative comment on your liberty design and how supposedly "it's too american" and "doesn't represent democracy", when my design of the statue was flooded with rude and ignorant remarks. Different styles, but the same focus. So why aren't people slamming your design?

Robsoul on Aug 16 '08 Sorry to see that Jon. I guess mine is different by incorporating the Planet of the Apes, creating a parody, allowing for something silly, but also it's a commentary on the current state of affairs within the US, which seems to be devoid of liberty & freedom.

See I like this despite (because of?) the American focus - I'm not sure how good this is for the Democracy comp, but I would totally wear this. It's a great, great design. Would make a great print, too.

Very clever, at least you made this humorous which makes the shirt more interesting at least.
I do agree though with the statement that it is "quite american" in that democracy isn't something that is just an American creation or something. In fact the term democracy is a greek word, and they were in essence the first democrats ever. And now it's shared all across the world. |

Can I ask a question? Why does having something from an "American" perspective sound so negative coming from some of you guys, the artist is American (I'm assuming) so it's only natural to have an "American" perspective, even though the SoL is not a uniquely American symbol. Just a question.
Anywho, it took me a quick sec to figure out the scene ( a line showing the ground would make this perfect) but once I figured it out I was in love!! |
