oil = death

yet another gas pump transformation...

And oil doesn't equal death...

people = death.

Oil never killed anyone, it's an inanimate object. People kill people, perhaps over oil, but even more so then the oil they are fighting over money.

the.maverickk - My thoughts exactly. This dude is a dumbass.

it doesn't matter if maverickk has subbed anything,

i agree that this is a quite overused concept

I understand that a few people have done the oil thing, but I like this one! Oil is the metaphor, so we don't need to get antsy about this guy being a dumbass!

I agree Tex77 - I just don't understand why a fellow Threadless would want to leave such a negative comment! I'm thinking that maybe the Maverick is actually George W. Bush!! I also think that the Maverick may need to be reminded of the definition of a commodity and the definition of a metaphor!

I'd buy this one! I like the lines and I like the message behind it!

I'd also like to know if the message is that oil = death as in murder or is the artist commenting on how it's affected our earth (re: carbon emissions)??

Don't be stupid the.maverickk,

if you drink enough oil you will die.

one has to think of all possible outcomes before making a statement disproving a previously stated remark

Sadly, I only learned the term "votard" five minutes ago. Guess it was in the nick of time.

Harfangoria relax on the VOTARD speak - I've scored about 20 designs and my profile still says that I've only scored 1 - GROW UP! We need to be kind to our designers!

slaughterjohn - I really like this! I'm going with tresBon's suggestion about the affect on our earth! I love the colours and the placement! I hope this comes through as I know my boyfriend would love it for Christmas!

The oil itself never killed anyone, true. It's the people that decide that it's valuable and vie for power over it that do the killing. They do the same thing over diamonds and slave labor, so maybe you should make them into a gun because you can't think of what else to design. 0

I truly love the concept, whether you take it literally or metaphorically. I guess name-calling only begins when people are too intimidated or moved by an argument (or an image in this case) to make use of what little cognitive/creative facilities they have to react appropriately. I do agree, though, that the image should be all the bigger in size... all in all, great job, slaughterjohn!!!

Can we like stop with the gas pump shirts already.

Nice design, but if we are over there because of oil then why are we paying $4 a gallon at the pump?
slaughterjohn
slaughterjohn on Aug 22 '08
you pay $4 a gallon because we are running out of it... remember also that oil makes plastic. Imagine the world without plastic. look around right now and count the things made of plastic. what will we use instead. the simple fact is oil causes war. people fight over it.

so really the tshirt is about starting an argument. and from all the slagging off comments so far the design is working...

just dont take it personal. u didnt start the wars.

ps ill post non political images from now on. hopefully you will like the style. but please be nice.

I like the style, and the symbolism slaughterjohn, and can aslso see why some people may be upset. However, I believe we can disagree and still be respectful.

The fact is, there is a war and oil has a huge part in it. As does money and death... and America (the country, not each individual person... don't get all upset now) and maybe it is important to have these arguments in order to remember and reflect on it... maybe a shirt like this is important...

Fuel/Petrol prices are a hot topic right now. We're all feeling pain at the pump. We as designers should be free to express our feelings over the topic. While I don't personally agree with the designer's point of view, I don't feel we should try to censor him/her. I haven't seen any comments like "enough global warming t-shirt designs". Let's censor the censorship talk.

...you pay $4 a gallon because we are running out of it.

that's not true at all. You pay the prices you do because people think that in the future we may run out of it. It's not based on real-time quantities. There are tons of untapped oil resources, they just aren't anywhere close to drilling those resources (if they are even ever used) It would cost billions to TRY and get to all that untapped oil, which, in the future - means expense. This future expense for undrilled oil pushes the cost of current oil prices.

that doesn't really have anything to do with critiquing this shirt. I don't really get why all these designs feature an American flag, though. Oil prices are international. Europe pays way more than we do for gas.

maybe do a light color with a dark graphic, to help make out more of the details

I think this t-shirt would serve as a great reminder to all, we need to conserve our resources!

I think this designer is very clever...I hope to see more from he's clever mind!!!

Yeah, not judging people is important: that's the POINT. That's why johni implying that maverickk can't make a proper criticism or vote, because maverickk is not (visibly) a designer, is ridiculous. No one who votes OR designs deserves cattiness.

tresBon on Aug 31 '08
I think some people have a little too much spare time on their hands! I'd prefer to spend my time viewing these cool designs and saying nice things rather than spending my time forging rebuttles that could quite possibly make me look a little foolish... wouldn't you say?

... I happen to know this designer - he's a relly nice guy and a talented designer - hopefully he has not been put off by the useless dribble contained above!

Like I said in my previous comment - I think we all need to think before we write here: harfangoria; revisit the definition of irony.
