About my design

by Valentin Falko
Young man, there's no need to feel down.

I said, young man, pick yourself off the ground...

I think you know these guys and the song... and the dance of course.

Four colors on black tee.

Hope you like it.

Clever take on CMYK... could the K have been interpreted better?

Merzi
Merzi on Aug 12 '08
Hehe, very clever indeed. One of the best CMYK shirts I've seen!

I do agree though, I think maybe it would be better if the last guy was actually doing a "K".

Or maybe he's angry cause he wants to do the YMCA instead?!

yeah, CMYK is short for Cowboy, Maintenance, Yelping Dog, and Karl. They were the village people from back in the day that sang YMCA.

Nice concept and execution.

I'm very interested in knowing why the K wasn't used. It's the only thing holding my $5 back...

I'll come back and score this later if you have a decent explanation. Because I want to love this so badly!

Maybe the best CMYK concept I've seen, but I'm on the 'what is up with special K?" bandwagon.

d a n g on Aug 13 '08
maybe he doesn't have to make the K 'cause he is black?

angry black karl?

because it's the only letter not in YMCA?

even if that (or something like it) was the idea, i'm still wishing he had a solid outline.

what if he was doing the Y to the side?

Hey,

Let me try to explain the K-guy. Theoretically you just need the three colors CMY for the subtractive color model, all colors together result in black (theoretically). But we know we need the K for the print. But the real colors are CMY and they do the happy “color-dance”. The K is just an additional (not a real) color… just for a technical purpose. So the K-guy is not involved in the “color-dance” and separated (and maybe a little bit angry about this).

Thanks for the commands.

If this prints, I suggest giving the last guy the "k" regardless. I would buy this if that were altered, $5 so you can win and follow my "command" :)

another possibility (even though you already answered it)

maybe Karl's a ninja.

and ninja's don't dance

and they sure as hell don't dance to disco.

Yeah...I'd buy it if black was making a K...I wouldn't feel like explaining it to people, because I'm really not sure I understand...even after your explanation.

At first I thought it was the YMCA, then I thought it was GAY, and then I realized it was CMYK 'cause of the colours. Interesting concept.

I really like that the K guy is not doing the "K". He's just so badass like that. He's like "Look, we both know it's a K, but I aint doin the arm thing. Sincerely, Rob Halford"

I took the concept as the A feels excluded, because that letter isn't a part of CMYK. That makes much more sense that any of the other ideas or explanations mentioned.

Great design.

CMYK = Cyan Magenta Yellow... Karl?

Cyan, Magenta, and Yellow together equal black. Karl (or the A from YMCA) is upset because he is not colorful. But he's still a part of the YMCA concept.

right?

Personally I love the way you implemented the K. When I said it out loud, "C" "M" and "Y" all had the spirit of the YMCA tune, but when you get to K, the music stops, and there is an awkward silence. Haha! Well done.
