this seems a little random to my eyes.

there are loads of nice touches and focal
points within the design but they are all working
against each other for your attention.

personally I would split this design down into
different tee shirts.

I keep what looks like the band members on one
tee and may be have the van on another.

either way I don't like those four solid lines at the
top of the design. lose those.

I agree. But i really love that van, w/ the horns on the side and the air freshener, but it seams out of place. Still a sweet shirt anyway.

Great detail as are all your tees, Same as above though i dont like the 4 lines at top.

1.The focal points deliberatelly work against each other to create a certain pandemonium or chaotic sensation and reenforce the design's concept 'SPAM the World'.
2.Splliting the design into different tees would destroy it's metaforical context.
3. There is no band members, only figures (female and male clones) that represent 'spam emails' seen as clones/demons that arise from the ground and play with evil contents (sperm like email boxes).
4. The falling van portrays the vehicle for Spam ( or evil ).
5. The 4 lines at top represent both the speed of the vans fall and the graphic continuity of fingers
( in a reference to the world famous satanic hand sign, so dear to those who live in hermetic Heavy Metal echosystems).

There, you see?! It all adds up to 5 points

Nice shirt, but you have to go into detail to explain what the shirt means, the design is suppose to explain itself in order to be good, but still a good 3

no one would have ever understood the spam thing unless you told them, which is a problem.
second, "the focal points deliberatelly work against each other" is a simply terrible design idea that could be the reason none of your shirts have ever been printed..

i don't agree with "the design is suppose to explain itself in order to be good". this is ridiculous. this how you react to it and this is a freeking subjective concept. and also where this rule that said that focal points working against each other is a terrible design idea ? are you the lucky possessor of the holy book of design rules ?
and by the way, this is only shirts..

Design is meant to explain itself, or be useful (comfy chairs, nice car, etc.) Otherwise it's art. And I don't like art. Unless it's pretty. But then it's just aesthetic, and it doesn't have artistic value. Which is crap. It's all about styles. Some love messy unexplainable designs, others dont.
But if you wanna send a message and not just spill out your inner thoughts and feelings, make it so all people can understand it. Not just you.
Spoken like a true advertiser:)

art is so subjective, who says that you have to make something that others will understand, many great artists werent so great at one point cause not many really got what they were doing till many years later,
looking at cintrao's work, i often doubt if he has recieved much formal art training, i mean he is a really great illustrator, and his concepts are pretty good, just small things i see, like in this one not using a definate higherarchy, or focal point, i still like the shirt, or parts of it, concepts that are unattainable or open are great, they keep the viewer guessing and looking into themselves to figure it out, for me that is what makes art so great, everyone sees the same image in a different way, 4

without the van and those black vertical lines i think would create a nice negative space around the top, in which case id liek this

who's 'we'?

yesyesyes on Jan 31 '04
That's not important. What is important Mr. Anderson, is that you understand you have a tendency to clutter your work. It's a legit comment but may not get past your internal protection program. Simplicity isn't important, i take that back, that would be boring if everything was simplistic. But you lose your touch as you add more elements.
