I've seen stuff like this before.

too commercial!!! most designs that are being offered aren't unique but thanks for the comment!!

sittingintheshade on Jun 25 '08
i think that by 'too commercial' she was referring to the floral patterns. those are common in even walmart tshirts these days. the colours are very nice but i must say that the figure would be a little awkward to wear, at least for me. plus, it's a large blot of purple in the middle of the shirt... i don't know how i feel about that.

the dancer needs a little more detail to prevent it from overwhelming the design.

It's summer time and floral patterns are perfect for summer!! That's why they get popular in summer cuz people luv them!! I could never get enough of floral designs myself :D

Next time i'd try invent something that's out of this world ..ok?!! promise !!. Now I know that weird things are IN and beautiful things are OUT. Thanks for all ur inputs!!

okay seriously. people on threadless can be way too harsh. and i do like this design. but sometimes criticisms can be helpful, and getting defensive and combative whenever there is a criticism is not going to be productive. especially here on threadless where every other comment tends to be snarky.

similar floral patterns can be found everywhere. and people look for things on threadless that are different from what you see at the name brand stores in the mall. i think the silhouette you created makes it unique. but the comment about the ubiquitous floral patterns was not a terrible insult but a viewpoint that might be worth considering.

but that's just my opinion. and it doesn't really matter, it's just threadless.

Schoog, thanks for your comment. I just felt bad cuz i spent hours on this design..i even created that background with real watercolor paint and then someone comes and say even wallmart sell this kind of designs it just felt bad.

I think everyone is free to create the art they that they like whether it's a floral design , character design or whatever!!

He said his opinion and i'm saying mine!! I didn't mind turbolucy's comment!! because he/ she has a good point.

i dont like shirts with the female bodyyy on them.

call it "celebratory" all you want, but i don't see any shirts "celebrating" the male body.

blehhehesjhefjkdshfs misogyny.

It looks a bit like an iPod ad to me... Also it looks like I could maybe get it at a department store. On this site, when stuff reminds people of the mainstream, they tend to be biased against it. I often have that bias. I believe it is safe to say that it's a Threadless "thing." Often the bias will also cause them not to explain themselves very specifically.

Anyway, to me this one is still original and attractive enough to wear, so I am $5'ing it.

yeah, but what makes this one unique is the Middle eastern bellydancer and also the arabic script in the background! I don't see that in the US!! and i'm a Middle Eastern by the way.

Thanks for ur comment!!

I think it's really pretty.

I do think that the belly dancer shouldn't be just bold but maybe be shades of purple that flow into the background.
Harfangoria
Harfangoria on Jun 30 '08
wow, I didn't see the Arabic. I think maybe fewer, bigger lines of it would work well too. I know there's a long history of Arabic script as art, so if you can make it work as part of a shirt, it's fantastic.

I'd leave a comment!!! But I don't want!!! To incite another!! Defensive backlash that results in!!! Constructive criticism that falls on deaf ears!!!

(sorry, I couldn't resist. lol)

Dubai Artist on Jun 30 '08
Well I think that you've just left a comment Miss melissa!!

The only constuctive comments that i got were regarding how bold the bellydancer looks. The rest who don't like woman body or don't like floral designs on shirts aren't because it's their personal taste. Defending my work doesn't mean that i'm deaf. Thank's for taking time to leave ur rude "COMMENT"

Mel has a point; in the scoring area, people are going to pick your design to shreds no matter what. If it's hard for you to deal with, next time you might want to put a design in Critiques first. People are gentler there, and you can learn a lot about the site's "culture."

Dubai Artist - you're welcome. Harfangoria has a point about learning the site's culture. Just because you don't agree with someone's critique doesn't mean it's not constructive. Learn to handle people who think differently. This is the first time I've ever seen a designer go after so many people's comments. Yikes.

Dubai Artist - Defensive much? Did you bother taking a look around these boards before you started submitting. People can be harsh, and are often tough judges. That's why things are so competitive. You're taking things too personally, and I agree wholeheartedly with Miss Melissa.

Your work isn't judged solely on whether it is 'beautiful' or not, or how much tome you put into the watercolor. Your work isn't being looked at as only art, but as a design for a shirt that is being made for people to BUY. If they've seen a shirt like this for sale before, they are going to tell you so not to denote your work, but to let you know it wouldn't be marketable. When they say that the flowers and the outline of the women's body are commercial, they don't mean that they don't appreciate the beauty, they mean that they think it's been done already, and believe me it has.

I like it. I would definately bring out the arabic script more. It is kindof hard to see now because it blends into the background, but if you highlighted it somehow it would really make the shirt stand out.
