Good pun, you should print this on roadside campaign signs and stick it next to the goof candidate of your choice.

I think it's about ending bi-partisanship...two party system blows. this t-shirt thankfully does not. Very cool!

I like the design, but I think that you should put a hypen or dot or some more space btwn the wording... it kind of runs together.

Thanks for the feedback!

I agree the letter-spacing was off, so I fixed it and uploaded the image to my website:

Can't we all just get along? Or get it on? Yes, we can! Finally, a shirt a moderate can proudly wear...

Yeh, add make love not war to it and it would be perfect.

raped by an elephant . . . i'm not getting it

Raped? It's consensual butt sex.
DYurchuk
DYurchuk on Jun 20 '08
Rape? You're definitely not getting it. :)

It's not a Republican dominating a Democrat, or a Democrat getting shafted by a Republican - it's consensual. The statement is that whatever party you may belong to, it's the man (or woman!) that's the best person for the job. Of course there's more parties than just Republicans and Democrats. However, the two are the majority and the most recognizable as icons. I just find it's a bit damaging to have separate parties with different agendas and moral stands, whereas members and future presidential candidates are expected to fit within each party's mindset. And if a candidate steps out of that boundary, they become scrutinized for their conflict of interests. I just think it's a little close-minded to expect someone to be completely dedicated to a party.

I was trying to think of an analogy and I came up with our sporting leagues. In basketball, we have teams that represent our states and cities, and respectfully, they are supported by local fans. At the end of the season, one team is the winner. However, when it comes to choosing all-star players to play on a global scale, the team associations do not matter. It's about the best person for the job.

I hope that clears things up a little for some of you as to why I created this design. As for adding "make love, not war" to the design, I think it's one too many mottos. I think it helps explain the idea a little (which is why I used it in my description) but it's not as focused as "United We Stand."

Thanks for taking the time to vote and comment!

Getting screwed by an elephant when you're not an elephant is probably a painful experience. That's why rape is the unfortunate connotation of the image. All I can think is, "that poor donkey".

I appreciate your open mindedness to thinking outside the party mantra though.
DYurchuk
DYurchuk on Jun 20 '08
LOL, I agree it'd probably hurt a bit. Thanks DCF. :)

I did try to make sure the donkey was rear-up and submissive, and not putting up a struggle. Maybe it's not clear enough.

thats a bit patronising. theres a little bit of a political message there to certain non american countries that I think you're missing.

without going on the design, the "united we stand" was hard to read. Maybe have little bullets on either end of "united" or also between we and stand. I try and think of tshirts as things you want people to read at a glance, and it was hard with the writing here.

Did you see this link I posted earlier, Meralynndis? Someone suggested the spacing was off and I had adjusted it. Let me know if this reads better for you. Thanks!

No matter how consentual the sex is, sir, it's still wrong. What would the babies look like? That should be your next design. I'll give that a zero too.

I can't see the humor since we've been royally, non-consensually “EFFED” by the Republicans for the last 8 years.

I'm ready for the donkey to get up on a ladder and give it to the elephant HARD!!!!!! How about that! HUH!?!?? LET"S SEE THAT!
thelonestranger
thelonestranger on Jun 24 '08
It's not about who is getting 'effed' by who...The Two-party system is flawed...so we all get screwed. The republican and democratic presidential candidates, no matter who they are, both step into pre-existing party affiliations and obligations to special interest groups. Lobbyists have taken advantage of this system for far too long. the system needs to change...to me, this design is about putting an end to bipartisanship and in turn, the special interest groups that support them. $5!

Because I don’t even live in the USA SO therefore it shirt rocks. Just a heads up for next time. This is a global community and by doing this you alienate at least half of the people here.

I understand, Phiffer, thanks for your comments. I forget sometimes how big Threadless has gotten - I still think of it as a Chicago-based company. But I don't regret submitting it here. I respect this community's opinion and I still believe in my design.

I have a lot more universal ideas I want to submit - I think I will have to take advantage of the Critique feature for next time. ;)

Thanks everyone!
