Personal?
You know . . . first dog in space . . . never mind.

Let us all take a moment to educate ourselves. Or if you REALLY don´t have the time, use wikipedia. The bus might be shorter, but at least your going to school.

Was that inappropriate?

Clever idea! Great design too. I love the Russian ispired art. It says: in black or USSR army green, but on my computer it looks more brown. Maybe it's just my monitors calibration.

Don´t worry, everybody. I already know I used the wrong ¨your¨ and I should have used ¨you´re¨. I even went to college. I still like the shirt.

is this inspired by the graphic novel??

No, the historical event.

really clever, but I think the concept will go right over most of the voter's heads. I didn't understand it until I read the comments.

I definitely understood it without too much work. I didnt know the dog's name or anything, but the date and the title tipped me off.

These comments are making me sad. If you can't be bothered to read a history book (who can, with all those hilarious lolcat pictures to look at instead?) then at least watch the movie My Life As A Dog. Just sit back and soak it in.

Maybe if you just removed "goes to heaven" from the text, this design wouldn't seem so sad.

Don't worry "thatwheel" I think the fact that a lot of people don't get this says more about the sad state of affairs in our education system more than the standard of your design... Which is good.

Your design is good I mean... not the lack of education of the voters on this site.

Comrade, if we could put the potatoes in one pile, they would reach the foot of God.

This is the Soviet Union, there is no God!

That's alright, there are no potatoes.

In my history book, it talked about sending Laika into space, and the last sentence of the paragraph was "Laika survived." I asked my dad if they somehow brought the dog back, and he looked at the book and said "...Uh...Laika starved to death in space."

Hooray for American history books!

I love this, but it makes me sad. I'd buy it anyway, though. It's good that little Laika is remembered in some way.

I understood it instantly as soon as I saw the dog and the stars and the name. I love, love this sub. It is like candy illustrations of my parents' kids books on a shirt. 1950s illustrations, I think? awesome either way, because it looks vintagey. I vote black.

My mother said, oh is that the dog they sent to the moon? And I said, no, to space. And she said, oh, yes I know, and then she said, the Russian space program has had great importance in my life. And I said, uh-huh. And she said, and I will tell you why--the Russians were making great advances and the U.S. was embarassed and decided they had to do something so they took the all the grade-school kids with the highest I.Q.s and put them into special math and science classes. I said, uh-huh. She said, so that they could become space scientists, but they put us into this class with this geometry teacher. I said, you were one of these kids? She said, yes--so they put us into this class with this geometry teacher that was really mean and hated kids, and as a result, 99 percent of the kids became artists rather than scientists. I said, uh-huh? She said, yes, I only know of one person who became a doctor, and he had a lower I.Q. than the rest of us. Oh, I said, uh-huh.

This event always makes me sad to consider: the excitement of the rush to get into space vs. the inhumanity of using an animal for this have always created a tension inside of me, with my compassion for the dog winning every time. Perhaps the design is a bit flippant, considering... I don't know...

Hm, No, The idea is SO great, but the text just totally destroys the whole thing for me, get rid of the text, please?

Prefer it without the "goes to heaven". I mean that's pretty implicit in the design right? It would make it less jovial and more austere which is maybe more reticent (even though she was just a dog)
