About my design

by unicornography
I was told to draw a pro-war political cartoon for WWI in US History, but this is the first thing that came to my mind.

That's just the design, and I guess it can also serve as the design on a white shirt.

They probably didn't even have zip-up hoodies in WWI...

I take that back. I agree with it, but...love is the wrong word.

I think some people are missing the point:

Joining a war in general could be considered suicide because of the extremely high risk of death or life changing injury. This can be used for any war- we just happened to be studying WWI.

I think you're missing the point. It was supposed to be a pro-war cartoon.

It reminded me of an idea for an anti-war cartoon.

I don't think joining the army's the problem, it's using an army in the best manner possible and avoiding injury and death whenever it is an entirely futile and fruitless endeavor. I think this goes to far and really misses that point. Plus the font is really harsh and not reminiscent of any older WWI or II poster and the boy's hand looks like it's already broken forming the gun.

Ugh why does no one have anything good to say about the military.. damn.

gtoast99 on Apr 18 '08
I (heart) the military kaleigh! But you already knew that.

You know what else would be suicide? Having a country without a military.

seriously? how is dying for your country at the hands of the enemy anywhere near the same as suicide?! just because a person chooses to place their life in harms way does not mean they wish to die.

It's a solid message but perhaps a bit overbearing.

I am Staff Sergeant in the Air Force Reserve. While I don't support the war, I think that there are better ways to protest than insulting the people who have been sent over, often against our will, to protect fight a war we don't believe in.

I have several antiwar shirts myself, but they are just that, antiwar. Your design is anti-soldier. I understand that it may not have been your intention, but find that offensive.

I have met many people who enlisted or received their commission in the armed service, and every single one of us has a different reason for joining. Many of us did it to get money for school. Some of us were leaving bad family situations. Some of us just realized that this country isn't all that bad of a place to live.

Not one of us joined to die.

You will never end a war by insulting those who, whatever their reason, are willing to put themselves in harms way to protect you.

I deploy on May 7th. Keep me and my fellow airman, sailors, marines, and soldiers in your thoughts or prayers.

Abby- thanks for your service. It's much appreciated.

this is rediculous, what were you thinking serious, the only thing this design could possibly do is cause controversy

i personally find it offensive

   DaniellesGarden on Apr 18 '08
Its not an excuse but I would just like to point out that this is a child who did this design. he or she is only 16.

I don't think unicorn.. thought this through very well or much at all. I also doubt he or she knows anyone in the military.

your drawing skills are there though unicorn, try again with something less offensive.

I agree with Abby412. I am wholeheartedly against the war we are in but I am in awe of the men and women who are willing to put their lives on the line for us every day. Thank you to any and all who serve.

this is really insulting. I hope threadless wouldn't print this.
