Even if you don't believe that the United States government was complict in the attacks on 9/11, you have to admit that the bluebird is kind of cute.

Check out a larger version of my design with this link:

Ahmadinejad claimed this (again) just today. He claimed the names of the dead were never published, which is a lie. They were all read out at the site and there's video of it in the Protocols of Zion film because previous to this, people used to say no Jews died in the attacks as if it was perpetrated by Israel. The little bird might as well be saying the Holocaust never happened. Which is also something Ahmadinejad would say. I know the bird is cute, which helps because Ahmadinejad is fucking ugly, but I think there were a lot of other less offensive and more plausible conspiracy theories you could've gone with.

Kiran-Fai
Kiran-Fai on Apr 17 '08
would everyone think this was just as cool if the bird assumed something equally as foolish such as the holocaust never happening? in other words, does a strong design make up for a weak thesis?
andyg
   andyg on Apr 17 '08
Kiran-Fai,

There's a big difference between denying the holocaust and questioning the official story of 9/11. The conspiracy theory in my design is NOT suggesting that 9/11 never took place. It's suggesting that there's more to the story that we were told. It's not an insult to the people who lost their lives.

ladrones
   ladrones on Apr 17 '08
im not sold on a conspiracy theory, but there are many things about 9-11 that left people with questions.

i think that it is more respectful to the lives lost, to ask those questions and seek the truth behind this. Or would some of you people rather have the president and fox news use 9-11 for fear-mongering.

9-11 is the best thing to happen to conservatives. It allowed them to abuse their power and use fear to put a strangle hold on our liberties.

Even if the government did not order it, they still used it and continue to use it to justify every one of their questionable actions in the last 5 years. Argue about the morality of that.

I doubt Threadless will print this shirt, but if they did my respect for them would double. This is an amazing design, simultaneously revolutionary and hilarious; the dichotomy of image and message is also a clever comment on the two-faced nature of both the American government and its media. By the way, did you know that the more education an individual has received, and the more they have studied 9/11, the more likely they are to question the official story? Vietnam was started on a lie - we learned that for sure a few years back. 9/11 is the same.

squatterjohn
squatterjohn on Apr 19 '08
The cartoon bird is tongue-in-cheek but the sentiment certainly is not. I wish it was saying something like "The moon landing was fake" or "freemasons run the country". 9/11 is too close for comfort.

helo on Apr 19 '08

turbolucy
turbolucy on Apr 20 '08
i'm not sure people are ready to find anything amusing about 9/11, no matter what you believe was the cause of this horror. there are so many other issues you can address with your excellent talent without causing more pain for the victims' families and friends. this makes my heart hurt.
berrynoir
berrynoir on Apr 20 '08
I'm not sure that this shirt is meant to be "amusing". I live in NYC, I grew up here, I lost people that I knew very well and cared for on that day. I'm not offended. This doesn't cause me more pain. I don't think you can speak for an entire group of people, even if you believe you're speaking on their behalf. And I don't think that wearing this shirt in NY would pose safety concerns. Suggesting putting a turban on the bird, however, I find offensive.
turbolucy
turbolucy on Apr 20 '08
i'm glad you're not offended. i am. why do you assume i didn't lose anyone? sadly, many of us lost loved ones. i understand that this shirt is meant to be thought provoking but i don't have to agree with the method. we do agree on the point that putting a turban on the bird would be offensive.

Hello all,

The folloeing is a message about my design which I posted a few days earlier in a separate blog:

“A Little Bird Told Me” should, in no way, be viewed as making light of the tragedy of September 11. As someone who witnessed the towers collapse on the street firsthand that day, I know how powerful that event was. I’m a different person today because of what I saw.

There is also nothing funny about elements within our intelligence infrastructure possibly playing a role in 9/11. Or, for conspiracy theorists of another view, there is nothing funny about the possibility of the government having foreknowledge of a massive terror attack and letting it happen on purpose.

There is, however, something inherently funny about a bluebird swooping down from the sky, landing in the middle of children’s birthday party or something, and in a high, squeaky voice, exclaiming something extremely controversial. That's what this is all about.

My goal with this design was to find a way to say something that people don’t want to hear in a really cute and marketable way.

Additional Note:

For those who think that the conspiracy theory included in my design is deplorable and completely out of the realm of possibility, google "Operation Northwoods" and you might get a different perspective on things.
KetchupAndMustard
KetchupAndMustard on Apr 20 '08
i am so sick of seeing shit like this... people marketing off of tragedy. just let it fucking die. we can all remember in our own way but there's no need to make it a fucking holiday and be reminded of a tragedy that we dont need any remiders of.

no.
shirtflirt
shirtflirt on Apr 20 '08
nice call with Op Northwoods.

what if you changed the bird to the a donkey. or, what was the book bush was reading to kindergarten class when the plan unfolded? that would be funny.

but i 'get' the little blue bird icon, too.
i have no doubt, that because we were fed half truths and lies since it went down that the administration in power guided the events of the day so that they could mold the outcome and further certain monetary establishments worldwide.

the parallel between today's conflict and vietnam begins to look more and more like history repeating itself.
shirtflirt
shirtflirt on Apr 20 '08
ketchupandmustard, it's ok to feel pain. it was a painful occurrence. i only hope that you have the wherewithall to take in all the facts, find some contradictions for yourself and then make up your own mind.
andyg
   andyg on Apr 20 '08
Again, this design isn'y about the tragedy of 9/11. It's about questioning the official story of what happened. The lack of critical thinking displayed in some of these comments is actually offensive to me.

shirtflirt
shirtflirt on Apr 20 '08
most don't equate critical thinking and assessing our 'elected leaders' as 'american'.

it's just a conditioning. it can change.
turbolucy
turbolucy on Apr 20 '08
you're an artist and you should expect your art to provoke controversy. it's actually the critical thinking of your community that resulted in these comments. i understand your frustration but "offended" is an odd choice of words for an artist. you can't expect everyone to agree with the content of your work every time you submit something. that's the chance every takes when he or she submits or creates something.
