well, this is my first design! i've spent almost two months on it now, and i don't think that i could have done it without the support of my friends and family (haha, it sounds like i'm accepting an oscar) haha, thanks charles.

hey.. how come this says it was designed 46 minutes ago? did you actually just submit it today? i'm just curious because i submitted something nearly a week ago and it's taking it's time like usual and i'm just wondering...
sittingintheshade
sittingintheshade on Mar 31 '08
haha, no no, i submitted this exactly a week ago now, the time that they put the design up for scoring is the time that you're reading.

weird! every other design says it was designed 7 days ago. anywayyyy,

this is such a complicated type design, and pretty well done though a bit too geometric to truly represent rope, though that's not a bad thing really. the only thing that really bothers me are the end bits of the rope - i don't understand why they are so greyed. i would imagine that the ends would work better if they were coloured to match the rest of the rope(s).

Anything that looks like it's handcrafted appeals to me. Great idea.

sittingintheshade on Mar 31 '08
yeah, i had trouble coming up with the colouring for the ends of the rope. I was hoping for a fused look. However, when I added the deep maroon colour of fused rope, it looked strange. Because of this, I tried the plain grey. I sort of like it.

well, what would you suggest?

professorE on Apr 03 '08
The way the color just changes mid-strand (for lack of a better word) makes it seem less creative. It would be better if the colored strands were actually woven into the design.

Right now it just looks painted on.

i think this is a great design i would wear this $5
sittingintheshade
sittingintheshade on Apr 03 '08
professorE: i wanted the design to actually be feasible. as in, i wanted someone to actually be able to create this knot out of actual ropes. in doing that, i had to sacrifice the concept of each letter being it's own strand. anyway, there are ropes that change colours in the middle of the rope. lets just say that i had some special ordered so that when i tied the knot, it came out just so.

leona beth: thank you!

cool idea, not so nice to look at though. Maybe less of the excess rope not being used for the text?
sittingintheshade
sittingintheshade on Apr 03 '08
i thought that it was already rather minimalistic... maybe i was wrong. though i sort of like the fact that it's not only text. had i wanted to make a type tee, i would have submitted this as a slogan. (and it wouldn't have won)

Clever! A little blocky, but I like it.

I like what you've done, but the shape looks quite clumsy on the shirt, and I'd like to have seen you spend more time adjusting the 4 colours to suit the fabric colour. As it is, you've just slapped the same 4 colour design on four different background colours, and I don't think the outline grey/blue tone works on any of them. My advice: Pick one tee colour - don't try to spread your bets. People get confused when you give them too much choice. If you have to pick more than one shirt option - think about adjusting the colours in the design to accomodate this. Sorry for the big post! All the best.

If you get over yourself, you will listen to people-- i mean the ones who are not complimenting you-- and your already good ideas will be better. The idea of this shirt is very clever. The composition, for a T-Shirt, does not do the work you put into it justice-- it is not bad, but not interesting either.
Art isn't about the time it takes to make. :: wink ::

you get a 4

I like the idea but have you thought about how it will look on someone? The knot itself seems too computerized too geometrical for rope. I like the brown the best. Good luck !

very creative.
could create a lot of questions from people walking by trying to figure out what it says.
and isn't that why anyone wears a Tshirt with a design on it?

René of Châlon (February 5, 1519 – July 15, 1544), also known as Renatus of Châlon, was a Prince of Orange and stadtholder of Holland, Zeeland, Utrecht and Gelre.

He was the only son of Count Henry III of Nassau-Breda and Claudia of Châlon. Her brother, Philibert of Châlon, was the last Prince of Orange from the house of Châlon. When he died in 1530, René inherited the Princedom on condition that he used the name and coat of arms of the Châlon - Orange family. History knows him therefore as René of Châlon instead of "of Nassau-Breda".

René of Châlon married, on 20 August 1540, at Bar-le-Duc with Anna of Lorraine (1522-1568). They had a daughter, Maria, who lived only 3 weeks and was buried in the "Grote Kerk", Breda.

While in the service of Charles V he was killed during the siege of Saint-Dizier in 1544. The Emperor was at his deathbed. René of Châlon was buried in the Grote Kerk at Breda. In the church of Saint Etienne at Bar-le-Duc is a cenotaph for him.

His cousin William of Nassau-Dillenburg inherited all of René’s lands. This, William I of Orange, (in English better known as William the Silent) became the founder of the House of Orange-Nassau.
