About my design

by cintrao
I would love to have some comments on this one. The original artwork as more clean geometrical vectors but I had some trouble placing it in flash, sorry about that, my bad. The center figure is an reinterpretation of a working man from an old american War effort poster I once saw, originally he was melting metal to make rifles,..

In that poster you could read: '' Get Hot Keep Moving don´t waste a precious minute ''

Let me know what you think this design means! =^.^= arigato

I would guess this is trying to say that carfree complacence (the happy couple on the bottom) is to ignore the more troubling complexities of the world (the military industrial stuff up top). Or maybe that the status quo supports all that. Or maybe it is communist propaganda.

Actually the fist thing that popped into my head the instant I saw this was "trust the Gorton's fisherman." Prolly that spear thing. But whenever I hear that slogan I think Gorton's if hiding something. I mean, why wouldn't we trust him?

cintrao, I don't believe I've given any of your recent work any less than a 5. I think this one's the best so far and if I saw this on a shelf in a store.. I'd take the whole pile.. hide it in the corner behind some ugly shirts...and come back to buy the lot of them .. just so i could put them on my walls.. and wear one for every day of the week. *sigh*

As for the design itself, the industrial quality was definately preserved. Despite the almost King Triton-esque dominance of the male figure in the center throwing me slightly in the direction of an ocean-like portrait.. I got back on track with the more intricate elements. Jets soaring in the background and a couple sharing a moment in a silhouette. It may just be me, but I think the emotion behing the war effort was captured in this design too.

Things I like:

The facial expression on the working man is perfectly distraught.

The complexity of the design is interesting...

Things I'm not so hot on:

The colors make me think of early to mid 90s clip art and I think that you are better than that

I think that the simplicity of the people below takes away from your overall design...are they necessary?

I

feel like you added a lot of depth with layering of vector images but I question the meaning of all of the pieces. it is possible that I am just not into this computery kind of design, or maybe I just can't read it....I would love it if you want to tell me what the different shapes, two halfs of figues, jet helmet with goggles type stuff at the top means because it is cool but it feels smushed together and meaningless as a whole...

Same kinda thing goes for the circular elements--i just don't get it...

The stick the central figure is holding looks like a spear, not a gun being welded and the line coming out of his posterior looks like a tail; it makes everything loose its modern war itentions for me. Also, the fact that he is topless reads a little strangely for me; seems like it is all more Greek than anything else making the people at the bottom a little more out of place

I write all this because I think you are talented; I wouldn't care otherwise.

I also just noticed a penis shooting up through the back...

the tallest element on the poster...

This would be great as a poster not a tee-shirt.

I never thought I'd say this, but yeah, I agree with goldbucket, that pink thing in the back looks extremely phallic...

but barring that, I think this is my fave design of yours! really nice use of color, and I like the illo muchly. a fiver

by the way, the "never thought I'd say this" relates to thinking it's a phallis, not the fact that I was agreeing with gold bucket..sorry ^^;
