ugh, was it really that bad? What could I do to improve it?

Don't want to get you down or anything, but I think working with cliche kind of material is dangerous territory, and really hard to pull off unless there done extremely well. I'll admit there aren't nearly as many fairy design as there are trees, but it's still pretty tired subject matter and probably gets a lower score becuae of that.

With this design in particular I personally just had a hard time telling what was going on in it. I could tell it was a fairy, but not much else. I don't know if you critiqued this or what other people said, but the one color designs are really hard to pull off. I definitely admire you for trying though, that's the best way to learn. And what's great about this site is you can submit as many designs as you want as long as they're different, so you can always try again. Good luck. :)
