It's surrender, not peace. Kind of sad that you used this statue.
bafocomics
bafocomics on Feb 11 '08
well, i see it as peace. but also there is this surrender stuff that would have a strong meaning too...

voted 5$ anyway.

try designing an original flag that says world peace, not literally, but visually. Then you'll eliminate the confusing statement of surrender. I really like the idea of using this statue in a peaceful context.

sniffydog's right. This statue represents serious sacrifice for your freedom.

sacrifice + freedom =does not equal peace?

Wow! Nice concept!

yeah, the white flag has long been used as a symbol of/way of communicating surrender. thus i feel putting it with this statue seems a bit disrespectful and i don't think that is what you were intending. Alabaster_Jones had a good idea, try that (:

yeah, I'm with orwell and alabaster.

I seriously dislike the war themes going around these days.

Surrender is a cool topic... but... not with our men and women dying oversea for freedom.

A for effort.

F for idea.

Reminds me of s bit from a Pratchett book "jingo":

The wind caught the white flag on Carrot’s lance, making it snap.

‘Sir, this is all right, isn’t it? I mean, usually a white flag–‘

‘Might as well show what we’re fighting for, eh?’

‘I suppose so, sir.’

...

Vimes looked back at the guards and pointed to the flag.

‘You know what this flag is?’ he said. ‘Well, I want you to’

...

(about the two opposing armies) ‘Arrest the lot of ‘em. Conspiracy to cause an affray,’ he started to count on his fingers, ‘going equipped to commit a crime, obstruction, threatening behaviour, loitering within tent, loitering within tent, hah, travelling for the purposes of committing a crime, malicious lingering and carrying concealed weapons.’

‘I don’t think that one–‘ Carrot began.

‘I can’t see ‘em,’ said Vimes.

BTW I like it. I see the white flag as the character Vimes did.

when one waves a white flag, essentially, the exact opposite of peace occurs.

You do realize when you hit the dollar sign, that means you would BUY the shirt, right, copykill?

Nice execution....confusing concept. 3 (no dollar sign)

Yeah I got surrender out of this but I get what you mean with peace... make it more obvious. Olive branches and doves?

I like Le Coma's ideas on how to improve this submission -- however, I wouldn't necessarily use a literal flag. Perhaps have branches and doves fly in the pattern of the flag?

Make the flag SHOW peace and not be the universal sign of surrender and then I'll definately give it a high score.
Jawz13
Jawz13 on Feb 15 '08
wow

No offense but I see that as a disgrace

Replacing the American flag with the white flag of surrender does NOT lead to peace

...

sheesh

ignorance at its finest!

As a young veteran, I was offended by the use of this statue and the white flag together. I am anti-war and I get your message, but it can be translated in so many other ways.

Yeah, not feeling the surrender thing.

people people people...

i need to help out here...

I know the guy who did this.

It was intended to be a "Peace" flag.

The "surrender" concept was unintentional.

I´ll ask him to redo this with a peace sing instead of just a white flag.
