Fish in Chinese is pronounced as YU. Yu has another character which means More, Extra.
Always used in Chinese New Year Greeting cards...

What the hell? The goldfish is totally ripped off from istock photo, I just saw it yesterday. Come on, anybody can use clip art, designers should be above that.

dear creativecat : those are chinese arts. you can find most in chinese paper arts as well as art composition. and fish, flowers are part of our culture. dont think it is a rip off. besides, i have my own hand drawn pieces. thanks for other supports tho.

clarification: not a clip art tho. i fully und the rules here. you can find similar patterns on the stamps, paper craft, greeting cards, and books. i would say not to copy but similar. In chinese school, during art classes, we have been used to cut fish and flowers as paper art. anyway, thanks for letting me know there is istockphoto. and where are those pics origin from?

The rainbow variation is very pretty. I didn't realize they were goldfish at first though, i thought they were flowers. i think it's the roundness of the body.

thanks to all for respect. i just dont like people putting fault claims without asking and they do not know the story behind. i have working on this for quite some time and the purpose is to celebrate chinese new year. another rat design coming soon, stay tune!

i like & know tradition chinese paper cutting from young, i can produce such art with no problem,but you need to know doing too common subject will invite unnecessary comments, try some other interesing theme will be a better choice ,just to share.
