Corinn
About my design
by Corinn
For the theme of "Music: Past, Present, and Future," I decided to go for a representation of the solid past (the bust of Beethoven) being tied to or "plugged in" (the headphones and jack) to the digital future music (the digital interface). To show that music is a constant through time, I made the music player part and parcel of the bust of the composer, an inseparable part of his existence.

Design-wise, the image itself uses eight colors; three constants (black and two grays) and five variables (a spectrum of any basic color). Though special inks are not required, there is the possibility of printing the Glow ink over the digital display. The image is intended to be located just above center on the tee.

This is a first-time submission, so I'd appreciate any feedback on my presentation of my design. Thank you in advance for your honest advice. =D

great idea! did you want beethoven to look like he was rolling his eyes? i think it'd be cooler if he was enjoying the music.

Similar to the submissions by 'ysy101' (he’s also using a bust of Beethoven). But I like this better! I like the detail of the bust! Nice job!

Nice idea, but Beethoven was deaf. Maybe you should have used Mozart.

Hmm, that's a good point. I didn't think of that aspect. I was just looking at the shapes, and preferred Beethoven's overall shape when I looked at busts of composers.

...Plus, I can never remember which of the two was deaf. (¬_¬); I should've looked it up.

I think it's a good concept, but the contrast between the bust and the headphones is too high, so I think they could have been integrated better. The bust is also well-done, but the headphones look more like grey blobs sticking out of his head than actual headphones. I really like the tracklist on the bust, though. It's something that doesn't stick out immediately, but results in a "hmm...clever!" feeling when you notice it.

haha, Maff. Thanks, I feel so loved.

Yeah, we do have sort of the same concept. Mine is more cartoony while yours is detailed. And I love the details! Your Beethoven bust is better than mine, I must say. I just tried to keep mine more loose, I guess. (I had to insert "Beethoven" before "bust" because otherwise it would have sounded awkward lol)

It looks like this is your first sub. Great job! My first sub didn't even make it past day 1. Can't wait to see more.

it's beethoven... so maybe he is listening to the Queens of the Stone Age Album, "Songs for the deaf" track 5 is "The Sky is Fallin'"

Beautiful colors. I almost passed quickly on it, but looked closer and am happy I did. The headphones look out of place though, that's my only criticism.

Melly and Nomad: I agree about the headphones. Hmmm. Maybe if the plug was from his head (creating the music) straight into the player...? Or even if the cord and 'phones were dropped altogether...? Would it still be cohesive enough? Hmmm. Several comps could come from this.

ysy101: *blush* Thank you, I'm flattered. I think we each prefer the other's designs more to our own! XD I like how yours is so simple, yet immediately recognizable. That's talent.

If this existed in real life, I'd buy it. As it is, I'll settle for the duplication. 5$ with purples. Actually, 5$ with blues, too, but I'd prefer the purples if it got printed (for guys too!)

By the way: Freakin' awesome first sub. Wow.

actually this really fits Beethoven(who incidentally wasn't always deaf) because his music was known for being way ahead of his time, while Mozart just brought the style of his time period to its maturity. kind of goes along with Beethoven's quote "Oh, they[meaning his music] are not for you, but for a later age"

I don't know much about art, but from the music history standpoint I love the concept
