gdawe5 - less sketchy, the way its drawn is my style of sketching, so Its how I want it. I'm not big on perfect vector shapes. I like rough and "sketchy" nothing I do is perfect. as for being tacky, If you knew me and my personality, I was going for that too.
XwhydopeopleoverusetheletterX - no, more bored at work and getting paid to fool around.
maybe someday i'll take a good amount of time to actually try hard on one of these.
so you didn't try hard on this huh? then why did you submit it? people like you are the reason threadless sucks these days. i've only been on this site a few months and i've already seen a massive decline in the quality of submissions..
neo mecha - my reasoning for saying i didnt try card is because you dont have to try all that hard to make something someone will like. if someone likes it, good for them. I did this in spare time at work. I personally would wear a shirt like this because I enjoy oddly amusing things. different tastes for different people i guess. you probably like bird logos and vector porpoises, i dont.
and remember: If you're going to criticize, be constructive...
I thank neo mecha so much for saying that. I was afraid to voice the exact same thing he said for fear that I was the only one that feels this way. Ever since september/october, there seems to have been a harsh decline in quality submissions. I've given more 0s, 1s, and 2s in the past few months here than I probably have since i started coming here one or two years go. It's been a real let down. Quality Tshirt submissions seem like such a rarity. Out of every 2-300 i'd be lucky to find two shirts deserving of 5s in my eyes.
no offence to any of u, but three people complaining about lack of time put into these tshirts don't really have much to show for u yourself. 1 tshirt out for three people - and quite frankly, the one tshirt (by anistrophic) doesnt look like too much time went into that either. pot, kettle - black.
perhaps a lot of people arent putting time into the tshirts cos of the return. $100 and $100 gift certificate. Its hardly much for all the time and effort u put into it. My one and only design took about half and hour. The idea only appealed to designers and the final result wasnt that great. Because - if I had a fantastic idea and was putting lots of time and effort into artworking it, I would be more inclined to print and and sell them myself. If I thought it really was that good.
anistrophic. neo mecha. britannica and acolytes please read :
NOTE: If you're going to criticize, be constructive and respectful about it.
you haven't helped or proposed anything to fix these 'errors' chrispartida may have incurred in. maybe being the photocopy guy at a design business is making you all sour. plus, you haven't even posted anything at all.
Oh bullshit to that note. Everytime someone posts that damn quote it aggrevates me even more. I'm sorry, but in reality, not everyone is going to be constructive and respectful. The only way i could be constructive about it is to say "Scrap the entire shirt and start a new one" because I seriously cant see anyway that this could become a picasso *in my opinion*. And if i wanted to be disrespectful, i would have flat out said that it blew, which I didn't.
And the reason I dont have any tshirt submitted (since i dont know how the other two are justified, i cant speak for them), is because quite frankly I'm not that great at T-shirt designing. Graphic design isn't something i'm necessarily good at, but that's why I'd go to places that are more experimental in that field than just submitting all the crap I have to threadless. There are several art communities that specialize in that; that don't run contests to see who can be printed. If i'm going to submit a shirt, I'm going to make sure that I think it's infallable, not some half-assed, "I had an arbitrary innovation spurt" tshirt.
strange, u don't submit because ur not good at t-shirt designing yet u feel qualified enough to tell someone else that theirs is shit and that they should "scrap the entire shirt and start a new one"?
So now someone cant have an opinion about how something looks because they physically cannot do it? That would mean that none of you could have opinions about movies, music, politics, creative tastes, photography, literature, and a slew of other things.
You're putting words in my mouth, asshole. Get some logic and then try and say something worth value.
britannica, what is ur opinion? u don't like it? why not just say that - then back it up with constructive criticism. not just - "scrap the entire shirt and start a new one".
why should he start from scratch? is it that bad that nobody will like it? or just u? think its the latter. and seeing as u have admitted u know nothing about design, i dont see the reason to try and please u.
here's an opinion for you: you're a fool. go and ask ur mum to start again from scratch cos there is obviously nothing good about u.
Here's an opinion for "u", stop typing like some little 8th grader prick. It's fucking annoying, and i think that could be a universal claim.
My opinion is yes, I dont like it. But the reason i dont like it goes past even aesthetic boundaries, I think the entire premise is just annoying. I cant offer any constructive criticism because I cant see anything that could totally turn this shirt around 180º for me. It goes beyond repositioning or trying different colors, just the entire graphic and theme are annoying for me.
And i never said that nobody will like it. Carter, you seem to have some deficiency in learning; the whole point of opinions are that they're totally proprietary to whoever says them. As a human I have the right to have opinions about tshirts, just because someone doesn't make Tshirts doesn't mean he knows nothing about design. Hell, this could even be applied to you. Hey carter, post a pic of a tshirt you can make. If it's utterly shitty, then your opinion that it's a good shirt is just as supposedly faulty as mine is that it isn't.
And it's hilarious how you can come to a total understanding about me through one thread and the fact that i totally disagree with you. You're an idiot, don't reproduce.
One thread, you're right, it's all it took you to upset people.
Britannica, yours are SEVERAL threads pointing to nowhere but how this community is displeased with your attitude. No one said your opinion does not matter at all, and no one will shut you down if you want to continue whining.
You just have nothing to show us, nothing to prove to anyone and nothing to SHARE. This is what a community is about, sharing, learning from others, becoming better. Not getting some t-shirt printed...Threadless is a medium, a way to achieve collective conscience and connect, the t-shirt gig is just a plus.
If you had anything to show like you say, ALL your t-shirts would be on stock and printed already. And I see none.
Those are the three shirt designs we'll be printing for the music club at my school a friend and I helped found. The reason I dont submit those is because of the stipulation that you submit them, they are property of threadless. And i find it a little bit faulty that you can speak for the entire community of hundreds of people when there have only been about 4 or 5 that I've had problems with because i voiced something other than "Cool! I love that! 5".
I'm not an excellent Tshirt designer nor graphic artist, which I never said I was but all of you seem to infer since I dislike some Ts. But the fact is that honestly, I feel that the quality of submissions has gone down over the past few months. And i'm sorry to say this, but there are simply some Tshirts that I just *personally* dont care for to the extent, that (and i'm not being facetious when i say this) there is simply no way to totally make me orgasm over it unless a new shirt was brought to me. I'm not saying that this shirt is abhorable; this is actually one of the better ones I've seen as of late, but i find it ironic that a community where you can supposedly voice your opinions is contradicting themself when someone says something that the mass doesn't want to hear. People who whine about the fact that I dont give 5s left and right are just as bad as the ones that they're jumping on.
And i thank you, blaxican, for your response because you were one of the first ones to reply to me in a way that wasn't being a total dick and therefore incurring more hostility.
If, collective, you guys want me to supress my views about some shirts, then i can do that easily. The only problem with this is that there would be a censor on the opposite side of the spectrum and 5s will continue to go to a massive number of shirts, just making those 5s/buys even less extoled. It's getting to the point it seems, that all i can post are feigned lies about how to make a shirt better supposedly but that I still wouldn't buy because it's so god-awful easy to push that 'would buy' button.
I wish I were going for a controversial piece. Because that's how it turned out. Thank you to those who critiqued (whether negative or positive) I enjoy feedback of all natures. Thanks to those who fought eachother to the death in order to prove a point (whether negative or positive again). Finally, thanks to the 287 people that rated the shirt.

[sidenote] I wish that people without something to show (i.e. a shirt design) would create something to be judged for themselves. [/sidenote]
