setting new footsteps and trying on new color as soon as one leaves the molded path where everyone constantly step on each others toes/heads.
don't forget to lean over and help the next fellow still stuck in the system.

or could just be a happy rolling gear that just has discovered that it can roll upright.

I really like the idea, maybe you could add a few more unhappy, still-in-the-system wheels, to show how big the "system" is and how many are stuck in there. Then our happy escaping fellow would shine out even more :)
