I thought I would hate this. But that's actually quite funny. Perhaps wouldn't have put the exclamation marks in - deadpan is funnier. :)

To my general understanding, Japanese phones scan these 'codes' and sometimes they get free music and stuff. The codes can be in magazines and even advertisements outside.

Something like that.

We have started using them here in Canada as well. Any phone that can run java or processing and has a camera can read the code. All you have to do is download an app online first.
