Love it!

No offense, but if the people weren't in it, it would be a very ugly Mondrian rip-off. Unless it IS a Mondrian which, in such a case, makes me look like a pretentious poop. But you would still lose because I don't think you could use it then.

i actually though it is mocking at Mondrian
JoeMonster
JoeMonster on Jan 10 '08
no way i'm mocking at mondrian. i have too much respect for the man and this is just my tribute to him, in a fun way. I'm sorry if anyone is offended.

Oh glamjets, missing the point as usual.

I think it works great as an homage.

I like it, and i understood it like a funny tribute, although I would like it more if it was a little bit more complex

It's awesome. it's really funny in a slight smirk kind of way. I'd buy it.

Mondrian is my favorite artist, he completely changed the way i viewed art and the way i portrayed it myself, i love the simplicity of his work, the perfect balance he gave to them and the way e made the "background" an active element rahter than passive; and sorry to say this but your composition lacks all of those, and those colors are too bright, and i`ve never seen that light blue in any of his neoplastic works, should have been white, sorry if i'm harsh but i just love and respect his work so much and this is not good enough, no feud intended, keep trying =)

Who thought doing a fun Mondrian tribute would bring up so much emotion? Fun design, good job.

I've seen "tribute to El Lissitzky" everywhere; time for one to Piet Mondrian

Fantastic homage and parody of the Mondrian style. I'm really liking your silhouette pieces recently....amazing you can do new things with them that don't feel like a fullblled rip-off. 4$

I think i might have to look past glam jets's inane suggestions and trying to sound helpful and art critique-y but really not saying anything useful from now on.

I think it would be cooler if it was bigger on the shirt and maybe a little different looking (the Mondrian side of it).

i love this.

maybe that's because i spent about a week last semester learning about mondrian & kandinsky & all of those other neoplasticism / abstract guys. :)

for all of you who think this is a rip-off of mondrian's work or that it's pathetic clip art..

you're all morons. :)

Well... Plenty of hate around this nice little design...

I liked it, anyway.

i'll just have to look past the hate and take positive from the fact that at least people are willing to sacrifice their precious time to give it some attention here.

it's an interesting idea, but compositionally this is all over the place.

-i wish the opening yellow window was actually part of the painting. it would have seemed more clever to use an already existing box within the painting.

-it's so completely crowded. there's no real focal point

-the man in the white rectangle holding a white page is completely awkward looking because you can hardly see it's outline

-there is very awful spacing between the characters and the actual piece of art. especially where you have the business man who seems to be waving a taxi. his arm goes into the other square! it looks like it was done accidently because there are also other small bits with tight spacing like where the dog's nose touches the edge.

it all seems random and accidental rather than you having put real thought about composition.

+ also why are the cat and done both greyish instead of black?

thanks for your attention, right down to the tiny details! you remind me of my professor in art school... and i mean it.

well frankly threadless has become practice for me. I'm still in school and giving thought out critiques is helping me spot my own errors.

I wish the shirt was white rather than light blue so that it actually looked like a Mondrian painting. Otherwise I really like it.
JoeMonster
JoeMonster on Jan 14 '08
thanks! i use blue as an altenative to show how the white boxes could be turned into a negative space. personally, i like white too.

If this gets printed, I'll have to buy one just to piss off Jubal Brown. (And it's a fine thing that t-shirt fabric is easy to launder.)
