About my design
by sidwood
I thought about submitting this as a slogan tee, but the lungs are crucial. Could work on virtually any color shirt as long as it doesn't clash with the fleshy pink color of the lungs.

Is the purpose critisizing smoking or not at all?

Maybe shape it like the "I heart NY" design? As it appears now, it seems that the text is too spread out across the front -- the "I" and the ending of "cigarettes" would get lost in the armpits.

if you wanted to you could make the lungs into a bit more of a heart shape. i dunno if you were going for that though.
also i agree with fouchnickens.

It's perfect.

if "I [lung]" was above "cigarettes" it would look horribly unbalanced. two letters over ten holds no aesthetic appeal. "I [heart] NY" works because it's two over two. nice and even.

i breathe cigarettes?

Maybe the text overall should be smaller if there's going to be a problem with it running into the armpits, etc. but as far as it being on one line instead of two, please see TheTrickster's comment above.

Thanks for all the feedback.

DreamAboutCake

The purpose could change depending on who's wearing it. It can be worn as a statement against smoking. Or, as wondrebread mentioned, it could be a good gift for a friend who smokes. Or, it could be worn as a non sequitur by someone who doesn't really care about smoking.

I think this works for the smoker and the nonsmoker alike. I'd wear it.

not really cutting it in the world of I (icon) something shirts. Especially with it all being on one row, it looks a bit squashed in. Not my style to where shirts commenting about cig smoking tho.

funny. maybe you could make them look like damaged/black lungs. it's great as is though!

I "lung " cigarettes? I don't see how this works for a non-smoker because I am a non-smoker and hate cigarette smoke. I would never wear something like this!
socoduce
socoduce on Jan 11 '08
I smoke (the legal stuff) and I think it's great! $5! I would change "cigarettes" to a smaller word like smokes or butts. It would allow you to make the picture of the lungs bigger and enhance the overall design.

Very clever idea, really cool. I wish your type kerning was a little tighter, like 1980's tight, then I'd really dig it. Good job.

"not really cutting it in the world of I (icon) something shirts. Especially with it all being on one row, it looks a bit squashed in. Not my style to where shirts commenting about cig smoking tho. " -FRICKINAWESOME

Ummm...well, you're not exactly "cutting it" in the world of grammar. It's "wear" not "where". I win.
And I'm a non-smoker who hates 1) smoking, 2) second hand smoke and I would totally wear this. I think it can mean what you want it to mean. It either makes a statement about how smoking is bad for your lungs OR it's commenting on how cigarette smokers don't really care and smoke anyways. I think it all depends on who is wearing it.

I think you got to mean one thing or the other. Trying to play both sides of the fence takes away meaning altogether. Where it stands now it vaguely shows pro-smoking. If you want to portray anti, you need to make the lungs sick or something.

iheartgiraf on Jan 14 '08
"I (lung) fags" would win so hardcore for the brits.
ginetteginette
ginetteginette on Jan 14 '08
this really should have been :
I (lung)
CIGS

but whichever way it's meant (anti / pro) i still find it unappealing, but i just don't like getting politics onto my clothing.

+because the lung is such a bright and clean shade of pink, anyone with a good mind will deduce that this has a pro-smoking message.

"I (lung) fags" would win so hardcore for the brits.

I was thinking the same thing, but the word "fag" has a different connotation in American English that would make selling it a bit harder.

Socoduce had a good recommendation to use "smokes" or "butts" instead of cigarettes.

I might pen an op ed piece for the new yorker about the meaning of this shirt... or just say awesome, even if you adjust the design cigs, butts, whatever the idea is funny 5$
