About my design

8 colors! Old combined to create new. No special printing methods required. Looks best on light blue. The birth of Venus + Venus of Willendorf... A tribute to arts ability to change our perception of beauty.

This is pretty cool. Don't really like how the head looks like a golf ball. Only criticism.

I really like this idea, but unfortunately some people aren't going to get it. Maybe a halfshell isn't enough to show the reference? I think the Woman of Willendorf is done very well though. The head does look a little like a golf ball but there's not much to be done about that in your style because her hair actually is like little dots. A small problem, though probably not too bad, is that nowadays she is called "Woman" instead of "Venus", at least from my experience, mostly because the man who named her "venus" was naming her after a circus freak he saw because of her bizarre shape. In any case, love the idea. Great job.

Thanks for all of the insight. ImpossiblePlant your are completely right about the venus thing/name, which why I thought it would be fun to title it Ms. instead of Venus. Thanks again for the comments :)

well i got the reference, but i think it looks a little plain as it is. some background would be nice, so it wasnt just floating there. perhaps the sea would be good?

haha. i think most people who know her will still know her as 'venus'...but i'm not sure how many know of her to begin with. i do agree that you've got to make the design more dynamic as well, like incorporating more of the birth of venus but in a spoofed way or maybe backgrounds from other 'venus's in art history?

...it's funny, I got the clam shell instantly as venus, but I've never heard of Willendorf...sorry...I guess I'm ignorant on art, but it still seems too obscure to me...but it could still pull off the intent anyway that art transforms our perceptions of beauty, provided people get that it's a fat chick standing in Venus' shell...

nice art historical ref.
Venus in a half shell is still fairly antiquated. Why not a combo with something more recent....not sure what though

I love this art history inside joke.

I would soo wear this. .

and I really appreciate the combinations, there are always women in art, always will be. going back to the first known woman sculpted in art, a little plump fertility (or otherwise, thats just the theory i accept most) figure , in contrast to a well known idealised beautiful female form I think sets this apart and makes it perfect for the 'revolutionary' theme in this loves contest.

in short, I think its brilliant

I think even if people aren't familiar with the Venus of Willendorf, most are familiar with the Birth of Venus enough to deduce the meaning of the shirt.

If not, you have a shirt that's a conversation starter and that's the best kind of shirt. $4
