About my design

If a picture is worth a thousand words, then surely a thousand words is worth a picture. and yes it is a thousand words, I put it in word count.

Who knew a thousand words could look cool.

Is a thousand words on a shirt worth $15? I'm not so sure.

emma.hachey on Jan 03 '08
maybe write " a thousand words is worth a picture " bigger once then surround it by 993 other words smaller saying the same thing :)
orangatang
orangatang on Jan 03 '08
or you could shape the sentances into an actual picture?
camdog
camdog on Jan 03 '08
Im thinking variate the sizes of the words, maybe even the colour? How it stops just at the end (obviously for 1000 words) just kills me inside. Cool idea though.
dinosaurman
dinosaurman on Jan 03 '08
neat idea, but i think that it would be more interesting if the words weren't aligned in columns, and if you changed the density of the color of the letters to create an actual picture. because right now it's not a picture...so much as it is a block of 1000 words.
LaurenRds
LaurenRds on Jan 03 '08
i think the words should stay the same size, but maybe make a picture? or just a design? because one big block of type is not really recognizable from a few feet away as anything other than a large square

Rogerschaerer on Jan 03 '08
A thousand different words - perhaps a thousand different adjectives - would have been very original. Then "A thousand words is worth a picture" would have only needed to serve as a title...
nourozi
nourozi on Jan 04 '08
well im thinking i could colour certain letters to create a picture, but havnt looked into it much yet. hmm what would the picture be? something simple.

try making a face or a landscape... that'd be awesome

Can we have a recount? I hate to break it to you, but 1000 is not divisible by 7, the number of words in your sentence. If you were aiming for exactly 1000 and those are all complete sentences, you missed. 142 x 7=994, so you'll need to lose 'picture' off the final one to make it up to 1000.

yes, i agree with making the words into a picture, even if you have to bend and shape them all over the place. Because then i'd love this forever.

the words ought to shape the word 'picture' or so...

yeahh you should vary the size and color

This alone isn't worth the price of 'shirtmission', but if you followed some of the above suggestions, you might have something.

a picture formed by those words would be awesome, but right now its a little boring
KrazieKorie
KrazieKorie on Jan 04 '08
Maybe if you wrote that once, then filled the rest of t-shirt with random words to make a 1000 would have been cooler

i agree with many of the others who have posted... im not against the overall idea, but you could have put a hell of a lot more effort into this. try taking this idea further and put it into crits?

v0ld3m0rt on Jan 04 '08
maybe you could put some ideas together: title (maybe on the top of the paragraph) says "a thousand words is worth a picture", and then 1000 adjectives to make some famous painting or something. cool idea though
hell0allison
hell0allison on Jan 05 '08
i think you should make the square of the words look more detailed so it forms something more to look at.. the idea's awesome though

I do like the concept, but I agree - it's a bit dull. Vary the font size or face some, add some more design to the shirt. I like where this could go, but I don't like the current design =\

The concept is okay, but you should have made the words into a picture. Then it would be awesome.

... the mathematician in me immediately knew that this shirt was likely 1001 = 7 * 11 * 13 (it's a useful divisibility trick for larger numbers).

... the artist in me suggests that thousand can be used loosely... after all, a "kilo-"byte is actually 1024; 1001 doesn't look so far off in comparison.

I really love the idea but it would be better if the words formed a picture, something simple.

just wondering, i'm not sure it really matters..but shouldn't it be "a thousand words are worth a picture"?

Have the words form into the shape of a camera and then it would be gold! Love the idea. Good luck with the re-sub.

thanks for your suggestion, a camera is perfect, i didnt really think about what picture i was gonna do but i think i know now.

1,000 words is, alas, not worth a $1,000 prize.
citrouille
citrouille on Jan 07 '08
And the quote, if I'm not mistaken, is actually, "A picture is worth a thousand words." If you changed the quote to compliment your design, it doesn't flow well. And true, it would actually help if there were a thousand words on the design.
SkittleMcFluff

Citrouille, are you serious? Really?
I like the idea for the shirt, but I'm holding off voting until you've reworked.

dannybot

I absolutely love this idea, and I think this does form what would be a framed picture........although, I think this would be cooler if you just had a thousand different nouns, verbs, adjectives, and the like randomly placed rather than the same sentence over and over again.

But I do think this is sweet!
dannybot
dannybot on Jan 07 '08
Or, rather, perhaps instead of just type, doodle out a thousand words to make a picture........that way you could work more color into it.

If the thousand words actually paint a picture I'd be all for it, but the shirt is hilarious anyway.

the font should be a little bigger. its also a tad boring. maybe spice it up a little
mowood

glad I'm not the first to say it, but grammatically it ought to be "a thousand words are worth a picture."
And I'd like to see some variety in spacing, the small pictures look like blurry bar codes.

"or you could shape the sentances into an actual picture?"

i second that.
