Print Method: simulated process for photographic image.

Loves Threadless Theme: Midnight Movie

Yes, must be a VERY short film.

I hope the relation to the the theme is self-explanatory. Sometimes great experiences last only for half a nano second. "10th Annual" can be taken out if no one like it on the movie ticket.

mario2010

omg this shirt is the best i've seen today
love it!

.MINUS.

The concept is solid and it looks like a gorgeous photograph. However it's just that, a beautiful photo on a shirt and I am not sure how I feel about that, especially on a site like this. Also the one kernel kind of looks like ice cream to me. That is what I thought at first.

jcarrig

I concur with .MINUS., well typed.

Sidzilla

did you take the picture?

Monkey III

It would make a great million dollar campaigne!

SM Designs

I can't wait to see how this shirt does here. I like it.

WackoJacko45

This shirt is awsome, go for the lower placement. 5 and print!

dream_vortex

not the lower placement!!! looks kind of...um...not such a good place for the guys.especially on this photo where he's sitting down.khm.maybe it's just me :)

SoulfumeInc

^good question. I have to hold off scoring until I know if you took the photo or not.

alittlebirdydoo

i love the concept but i'm not into the photo realism...also i hear you guys on the ice cream...but the tub looks like KFC

citrouille

I like the lower placement. :]

Yes, the photo was taken by myself after days and days of preparation and conceptual brainstorming.

beeosx

nice!

Chelseaoyesums

its a great idea and if it was made into a more cartoony way so that it was only 8 colors it would be AMAZING
i LOVE the idea
and it looks great on the chest area

The photographic style is more persuasive in portraying the small kernel. An illustration may mislead viewers into thinking it's just a large bucket with a large kernel... thanks for the comments everyone. Keep them coming!

TreeFiddy

you could make this into an illustration, itd be tought, but doable

wish-ga

How did you light that kernel. What was the audition process?

jetfart

cool $5

jimmiiko
jimmiiko profile pic Artist

HAHA, wish-ga, your question is so amusing! The audition process? OMG LOL! Well, I went to Whole Foods Market and Trader Joe's, and purchased bags and bags of popcorn. I went through every kernel looking for one that was round and nicely puffed (I must've gone through 1000s). The rejected kernels went to kids who couldn't care less about the appearance.

I used two sources of light for the kernel, one on each of its sides, using GE Reveal bulbs. A faint, third light source was used for lighting the background.

xhunter

$5 ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! Definite buy for me.

Chipmnk

Pretty cool.

bemfi

looks like man walkin' on the moon, good looking!!
----------------5!

olie!

nice photo

superdelux

threadless cant print this or do they?

stop spamming, please.

yes! thank you iDan for adressing that!

DaveSmith

I like the idea. Not so much how the design is centered though. And photo realism doesnt do too well on threadless i think. Maybe if this was hand drawn/colored. neat though.

mr.pimpant

it's very interesting, i'd like to see that on a shirt.

Does it was a joke when you ask me to draw for you?
If not, we could talk about it

Dekulink

that's hilarious. Dude send that in!

shakethesheets

Really nice... I'm intrigued to see how it'll actually look printed on a shirt.

thaiboy257

Hey Love the Shirt, so where can i get one?

Simpletinrobot

I dig the concept and how it looks, just don't know if I'd wear it, but say if this was used as a shirt from an actual short film festival, I'd get it, same if it was a poster for an actual film festival I attended, I'd hang it up. So 5 for the design but unfortunitly I think it'd need some personal or historical context for me to move over to $5

blkstim

This is amazing. I can imagine the attention it'd get if I wear this around. Great idea, great execution, good luck.

Kookaberry

I'm much more of a photographer than a drawing type artist myself and if you took this yourself, I commend you on setting foot in new territory with the simulated process. I say fooey on the people that are insisting that you should make it into an 8 color doodley type design. It's a photograph for a reason and these comments smack of narrowmindedness to me. Embrace new things people!

blkstim

Kookaberry is right. Like I blogged-commented to someone earlier, isn't this the reason why threadless is offering more print options? It's suppose to be taken advantage of!

thefloormat

i love it on the the low print, looks solid. well done, and nice photography

mitchelhunt

Haha! Awesome. I like the higher print better.

quister

Sounds like you stared something jimmiko.

Consider this insightful quote from the preeminent designer Milton Glaser when the old school designer and illustrator purists were railing against the computer.

“The form-making impulse is so powerful in human behavior that even the most incomprehensible technology eventually becomes usable as an instrument of the imagination. One has to remain optimistic about this and not simply deplore changes. Some older practitioners view these changes as both dangerous and a reduction of artistic quality and basically say that this new stuff is all trash. Many young people feel they are being criticized and held in contempt. This separation hurts the field and the sense of generosity and professional friendliness that should characterize our practice.”

Now, I'm for peaceful coexistence, but not if it means conformity. Jimmiiko had an original idea that he originally executed, we don't have to like it but we do have to respect his honest attempt.

I happen to think it's a very strong concept that was beautifully executed and will give it 5$. However, after hearing Kookaberry blkstim, and others, I would vote five even if I hated it.

proja

SORRY!
well guys i hate to ruin your happiness but this concept has already seen the light of day.Namely, this was the official campaign for 54."Belgrade documentary and short film festival" with the sentence:"popcorns make you fat".
it is very good idea and I'm sure that it is idea that you came by yourself, but it was already made.
here is the official website of the festival:

proja, thanks for sharing, but aside from the one kernel imagery, I do not see how their concept is related or even similar to mine. The context is completely different. The tag line there is "popcorn makes you fat" whereas my tag line is "short film." Furthermore, how does their image tie in with their tag line? I can't help but feel that this is only an insult, simplifying my concept.

screamin02

How on earth is this only 8 colors?

Kookaberry

It's actually only 4 colors I think. It's simulated process. So the colors are layered over another to create millions of hues. Just like a printer.
