About my design

by roman5studios
This piece is predominately a political piece on my opposition to the bush administration. I wanted to use suggestive, but not overpowering symbols that basically describe my feelings towards these people. I chose four cabinet members of Bush's administration (starting from the left) Condoleezza Rice, Colin Powell, Dick Cheney, and Donald Rumsfeld.

As I reflected on how I wanted to depict these individuals, I decided that these people are just plain creepy to me. So, I wanted to depict them as creepy, crawly, "minions" of Bush that whisper into his ear.

Lastly, the ghost-like figures can have several interpretations: lies, deaths, sins, etc. I leave that up to the viewer to decide.

As for media choice, I would suggest something that is light and durable (since there is alot of surface area from this design.) Perhaps vinyl or heat-application.

Although I enjoy the colors of the "lies", I found it just as interesting to leave them transparent. This would save alot of ink and would help keep the shirt from feeling so heavy. Lastly, the orientation for the image is intended to be a bleed print from the bottom center of the shirt to the neck collar. I am receptive to any suggestions.

Thanks for your consideration!

wow! i'm not sure if this'll go over well here at Threadless, but this is pretty astounding. i, for one, think that this would look awesome on a wall.

great work, here!

I'm really liking the fact that the lil' lie critters are about to engulf the wearer of the shirt, just like we are all covered in the mistakes and lies of this administration. The centipede bodies are also pretty interesting. I think it would work just fine as a shirt, but probably not at Threadless. Keep plugging away on this one and let's see what else you can do.

It's a great piece, I like the meaning and thought put behind it. I would definitely wear it if the ghosts looked more like evil spirits coming out, and were a little less over powering. Very creative!!

Love the sentiment. Can't see buying it though.

That is a great piece, those demons should be eating the flesh of innocent human beings while drinking oil. Just a suggestion, but the demons should be the same color of the tee so there isn't this huge blob of ink, so khaki or sage for the tee.

Check out tanktheory.com, you might find a tee on there that you like that pertains to the same subject. Not trying to spam you, just trying to further the cause.

Wow, that's both frightening and awesome. I love the idea, and the art.

It's an awesome idea, a great illustration, but I don't know how it'll go down.

And I actually thought they were maggots, not ghosts, but that idea works too. XD

I'd also have tried it on a darker tee - or maybe a red/blue/white combo. Or something.

Anyway. $4 from me.

I am very fond of the illustration but would never wear my political feelings on a shirt. If these were anonymous faces, I think it would go over a lot better in this community. I'll give you a 4 for the awesome drawing, but I can't give a full score for any political statement.

I would buy this. where i live, showing your political views is very common because my town is extremely liberal. i would change the color to black. I would make the ideas coming out of their heads more evil looking to really show the significance.

Oh wow. That is frightening, inspiring, confronting, powerful, awesome.

Sadly I agree with nivius - wouldn't wear my thoughts on my sleeve, as it were. Still, I'll give it 5, just because I want to see it win for all the people who would wear it.

Excellent design, roman.

it's a nice piece to look at for sure.

hating an administration, single president or vice president and blaming them for all the evils is the easy way out. look further, look beyond our administration, look to the past to see who we answer to.

anyway, good luck.

and what shirt is rob talking about?

Leave the political propaganda at the rally and out of our t-shirts. Bush-bashers have every right to their opinion, but I hate in-your-face political peddling in art--from either side of the aisle.

Also, WAY TOO much ink for a print. (And it doesn't even look like Bush.)

I don't like having Powell on there. I'd rather someone like Chertoff or Bolton. Powell is a loyalist (once the government has made a decision, even if he disagrees with it, he will follow it), and he opposed most of their foreign policy decisions. It's a shame they didn't listen to him when they had a 4-star general telling them not to go to war.

Other than that, great concept and great execution. I'll give it a 3, just because I probably wouldn't buy it. If it weren't for Powell, I might.

i agree with your view, but this shirt is way too overt for my tastes. you say you "wanted to use suggestive, but not overpowering symbols"... this seems pretty blatant to me. i'm also not a fan of the shirt color or shading of their faces.

I agree with diomio! When I first saw this, I immediately thought of the protrusions that characterize demons in Princess Mononoke. It's a great shirt.
