White on a black shirt. Shades of gray in the dress. Dress also can be in the pink color of the background.

holy crap this is hot!
the guy looks a little bigger than her when he's behind her so he should be a little smaller. his head looks huge compared to her.

the proportions are way off. her legs are too big for her body. his hands are too big for her body. they don't look like they are dancing together, maybe bumping into each other. I love the style though. and I love hand drawn art but work on your basics.

Its weird but...you know when people really love to dance, you know it because you can really feel the emotion?

Well if these were real people I think Id feel that from them?
Nice job.
Btw I like the idea of her dress being light pink

Hehe, I reckon the girl was drawn working from a naughty photo.

Of course it's sexy! Dance is sexy. This is what dance feels like, and the big maile hand and the high swinging skirt are this artist's way of portraying his feeling as a male dancer. I have seen him dance, and I can tell you, his partners get in the groove you see on this shirt. This is realism.

I love the illustrative style and the movement/flow you get from the image. I think that proportionally the hands a bit too big compared to her midriff. awesome work

Sweet! I think, however, you may have meant for her arm to be on the other side of his head. As though she were holding him to her cheek. Sans the title... this positioning almost looks like an assault scene.

body proportions and make smaller please.
Baja318
Baja318 on Dec 22 '07
I'm going to be honest...the proportions are just messed up. Her head is way too small (I know it's a funny angle) but still - it is. All the proportions just feels a little weird to me. I know it sucks to hear but I would go back and re-draw the whole thing, that's your best bet. I don't know if you hand drew and scanned or drew directly into your comp, but I would redraw regardless. It's a good concept and you obviously have the talent to execute it properly, just take more time.

The intensity of the moment is captured very much but I agree on the proportion comments. Fix that and you got my $5.

i like the drawing, but i agree with martialstudy, it looks more like some guy is forcefully grabbing a woman and dragging her away. if there was a little more interaction between the facial expressions of the characters, it might be more dance and less assault.
Jordywilliams
Jordywilliams on Dec 22 '07
I guess i can see the whole assault thing. i guess i dance too much to not see it as a dance. Whoops. Loving the crits, some points i'd like to touch on:
*He looks bigger behind her because he is a man. men are generally bigger than women, but he is very close to her, so not far enough away for the perspective to kick in.

*If you really look at the sizes of their heads, they are the same.

*To SavageCompanion, I worked on my basics a long time ago. Her legs are not too big for her body. The middle of your groin is generally the dead center of your body, so if you measure from there to the top of where her head would be if she were standing straight, and where her feet would be if they were in the picture, you'd find her legs are porportional.

*No naughty picture used, but LOL.

*The hand is the right size. Used my own hand (which is admittedly a little large) and placed it on my own stomache to make sure i hand the size right.

*In retrospect, having her arm on the other side of his head would definitely have made it more intimate. i agree, but the speed with which they're dancing (to lift her skirt up that high) it would be very hard to have your head there.

The porportions are all right, but I do realize that they look off. I see how it could deter someone from buying this from threadless, so that is what's important. I again love the feedback and i dont mind hearing that i should redraw it. no offense taken. I'll be drawing more like this and taking advice into acount!

Sorry, but when I look at this shirt all I can think of is "Dirty Dancing." And I can't STAND

...that movie. Sorry...hit "enter" accidentally. But I think it's a very interesting design, though I feel like it would be better if it were put on the shirt to the side instead of smack dab in the front... Could you maybe post a few alternatives positions next time?

they look as if 2 artists have drawn the seperate figures.
dont get me wrong, i love it. i adore dancing. and i can definitely relate to the raw-ness its giving off. but the style just throws it off a little =/
i also dont get why hair would be so windswept when shes leaning back on the guy..
Shain Marshall
Shain Marshall on Dec 22 '07
Ok so lots of people seem to be commenting on the scale of the seperate figures but seriously isn't that the point?
If they're the same size then this becomes just another dancing figurine print...boring.
It's nice that he's bigger than her, you certainly wouldn't want it the other way around!
I think it's wonderful.

nice work but its a little porno-y
yeah right

I really love it. If you have ever see the artist dance you get the picture perfectly. Sadly though I don't feel it would be good for a shirt unless it is toned down. maybe close the girls mouth so it does not look like she is having and orgasm.
Jordywilliams
Jordywilliams on Dec 22 '07
yeah, i was a little afraid of the porno face. most girls arent made up like that.

The wind-sweptness is to dispell them from just being static there. To explain it a little better this move would be somewhere in the middle of a sultry waltz (my favorite) and they are spinning. Her skirt is ruffled up high from the motion and her legs are open for the next step. He is taking an unconventional stance of leading her from behind partly because it's a wonderful way to lead for both, and partly so neither of their backs are to the viewer. Probably the next move from here would be for him to step back and spin her independently with that hand on her torso and then catch her again and keep waltzing.

It is racy for the 15 and under crowd, but 16+ could appreciate this.

Nice dip 'yeah right', whoever you are. ;)

I've gonna say, I would never see this image and think of dance. Only if you mean dancing in a metaphorical sense.
The more I look at this, the more I find it to be strange and a bit disturbing. I can't say I like it, but I do find it to be engaging and thought-provoking.

they're dancing... right?
it looks like they're not 'one'
the guy looks like running from something and then the girl looks like she was naked before and then drawn a dress over.

this is GREAT! if you made the flowers on her dress light pink, or just put in a little color on her that would be even better. i love the possessiveness of the man, it's really attention grabbing and sexy but not in a sleazy way. I would buy this in an instant. I'd make the color navy blue or black
