I think this is the ceremonial royal shirt of the King of Vanuatu. (only comes in XXXL).

yeah, i tried the completely vertical and it looked a bit plain so i went with a slight angle. gives it character.

I don't like how they are lined up horizontally as well. If possible, offset every other line so you don't get the implied horizontal line. That will solve your problem of it looking too plain as well.
