About my design

For those times when you just want to reach up in the sky and break a rainbow in half.

I don't really have those times... I don't like the hands, maybe just a broken rainbow? More poignant.

ha! i like it... some might think of it as anti-gay.

KrazieKorie on Dec 06 '07
at first I thought it was "anti-gay" but i guess it will be just a matter of opinion
RainbowJoy
RainbowJoy on Dec 06 '07
Rainbows aren't gay though. They are a scientific phenomenon - an optical illusion created when white light passes through water droplets (or another device acting as a prism) and is split into all the visible colors of the spectrum. Rainbows can't inherently be gay. Just like tornadoes can't be gay.

If you still disagree, then why not label all triangles as gay? All those children's shows like Sesame Street, trying to teach your kids about shapes... well then, they all must be gay.

If you look at this shirt and see anti-gay, well then, that's weird.

Well color me weird then.

first off, not anti gay. If it had a caption that said " I don't like gay people." then it would be anti gay and we would have reason to lash out on the designer, but I agree with Rainbow joy, rainbows are symbolic of many things. Second, the design is cute, but I think it is a little too simple and there needs the be orange. And the colors are in the wrong order, maybe that's intentional? I mean even so it's still evident that this is supposed to be a rainbow. 4.

Triangles can be gay too. The nazis used to make homosexuals wear pink triangles, and for a long time before the rainbow symbol that was the symbol for homosexuality.
RainbowJoy
RainbowJoy on Dec 06 '07
justabean - my point was that just because this shirt depicts a broken rainbow doesn't make it gay. Now if the hands were tearing apart the gay flag, maybe.
SoulfumeInc
SoulfumeInc on Dec 06 '07
just because rainbows arent THE symbol for being gay, doesnt mean that some people wont see this as anti-gay, and thats dangerous
HandInMyPocket
HandInMyPocket on Dec 06 '07
Exactly SoulfumeInc. This could totally be taken the wrong way. And I have a gay cousin, so that might not go over so well. :/

If I saw this on somebody walking down the street and had no prior "saw it on threadless" knowledge, I'd think it was some sort of anti-gay thing. I don't like it. (shrug)
RainbowJoy
RainbowJoy on Dec 06 '07
Well then you're all under some kind of social influence if the first thing you think of when you see a rainbow is "gay."
professorE
professorE on Dec 06 '07
If I'm under the social influence that makes me think "gay" when I see a rainbow, isn't that the fault of those who've adopted it as a symbol? Namely the gays?

lol @ the phrase "the gays"

Wow. I was just thinking about God being frustrated, reaching down and deciding to break a rainbow in half. That's all.
yarmouth
yarmouth on Dec 07 '07
I thought it was a statement about homosexuality, too. I am pretty damn sure that a rainbow is both a scientific phenomenon and a symbol of gay pride.
cindylou
cindylou on Dec 07 '07
a- rainbows are associated with gay pride - just accept it

b- why would you want to break a rainbow anyway (as if you could)??
StevenExists
StevenExists on Dec 07 '07
Yeah, i really dont understand why people associated rainbow ARCS with gay pride? I get if it is a square or triangle with a rainbow pattern on it, but a rainbow arc is a RAINBOW.

JCastronuevo
JCastronuevo on Dec 10 '07
i know you've most likely heard this a thousand times but yeah most people see the rainbow with a big meaning and breaking it in half might send a different message than what you were thinking of but i would buy it if i didn't think my friends would analyze it to something else
Savage Companion
Savage Companion on Dec 10 '07
I like it a lot. I also like the idea of a broken rainbow on the ground

I don't get the anti-gay message. Rainbows are universal. Sure they have become the sign of the gay flag, but that is not what is represented here, as evidenced by the author's comment
therealcristobal
therealcristobal on Dec 11 '07
rainbows were a sign from God first that he would never flood the earth again after Noah and his zoo crew landed on plymouth rock...wait, thats not right... in any case, people see what they want to see..this could be anti-christian just as easily as anti-gay, or maybe even anti-polyester since its printed on a cotton tee... i think it would be a nice conversation starter if anyone asks you what its supposed to mean... i took it as a 'screw this cute happy crap' sort of feeling that we ALL feel every once in a while..and im gay..and a christian.. and a poly blend lover...

This conversation amuses me. I didn't see it as a "anti-gay" shirt, though I can see how someone might think so.

I think you should add more colors to the rainbow; it looks a little strange? now.

I'm all for a shirt themed "screw this cute happy crap." Unfortunately, my first thought was the shirt was anti-gay, as well, Maybe not everybody will read it that way, but believe me, if you buy this shirt, some people will. Is that a message you want on your chest?

Why not have god reach down and do something else?
